Is the 7900GTO a upgrade from GT 430?

Hi, my father just came home with a 7900GTO card from his job because they didnt need it.
Since its old i cant find any comparisons and im waiting for a "new" power supply with 6Pin power connector to be able to even run the card from my father wo has one laying around at his job too..

So i wonder if its even worth "upgrading" to the 7900GTO when the computer currently has a GT 430
Its really old but i understood that it was one of the top of the line cards in its time.
My little brother who uses the computer im trying to "upgrade" will be playing; Minecraft, Heavily Modded minecraft, NFS SHIFT, NFS UNDERCOVER, Skyrim.

The computer do need a gpu upgrade because even at the lowest settings Skyrim is not playable (<15fps MAX)
He wont be playing any "new" games so GPU AGE doesent really matter...

GT 430 is weaker than the 7900 GTO, But because of the features, it runs much faster. I'd say it's a big upgrade.

    Features?

Oh and also, i found a used 5850 on the swedish "ebay" (Blocket) for 30 euro, with a bad HDMI port.
If the 7900 GTO is not powerful enough that is..

I'd go for a used HD 5850 because really, the 7900 GTO is just a high-end DX 9.0c and even a GTX 750 Ti outperforms it by a big margin.

According to the Passmark GPU Benchmark list, the HD 5850 is by far the better card.

Here's the scores (higher is better)

    GeForce 7900 GTO: 245

    GeForce GT 430: 650

    Radeon HD 5850: 2274

Keep in mind that this is a synthetic benchmark and may not reflect the performance you will get on a specific application or game.

In my personal experience, the benchmark favors Nvidia but still seems to be accurate enough.

Games like dirt 3 wont even start with the card, But while playing skyrim at medium the card is at 40% load, but it feel like im playing on a packet of butter. Reason? 512MB of GDDR3 isnt really very suffiecent even at low settings at a lower resolution... The memory is always overloaded even if i overclocked the card to its limits with a quite good gain in performance... I guess a 6year old high end directx 9 card doesent really have too much to offer in this time..

It doesn't have anything to offer in any GAMES AT ALL. It's either stick with GT 430 running low settings or HD 5850 and run it at medium.
