Windows not recognizing NVidia GeForce 8400M GT

I followed all of your instructions for my Vaio VGN-AR630e and it didn't work. My operating system is 64bit. Is that possibly why? Do you have a workaround for me too? Thanks.

to be hones I dont remember exactly where the driver is I was looking and trying many of them at the Nvidia website but I will tell you the drivers I have download so you can search for them and try them

Here, let me make a custom install plan for you since you're having troubles with that.

Right click on standard vga. Properties. Details tab. Change dropdown to hardware ids. Copy and paste results here. Please no screenshots for this. Thanks.

I'm another one with this problem. No matter what I try I haven't been able to fix my GeForce 8400M GT + Windows 7. I've tried modified .inf files from several websites but I'm never sure if they're what my computer needs. I figured I'd try you and your custom .infs
Here's my info

I've been able to keep my computer up by using the Standard VGA thing, but I'm mainly a gamer and that obviously doesn't fly for most games

Did you make sure to replace the original inf?

I did all of that, too.
All of the drivers + mod .inf I tried actually installed correctly, but when rebooting the parts of the screen that should be black had all sorts of graphics weirdness, like short vertical lines or dots. It did boot up though, but a few seconds after bringing up the desktop it would just go black. The power light is on but the screen is completely black. After that it would just turn off completely as if the battery had run out or something.
Of course if I uninstall the so-called appropriate driver and use the Standard VGA, things go back to normal. But it's pissing me off because I can't play anything. It's a two and a half year old computer, but come on...

I have the same graphics card as yours on Sony Vaio VGN-AR51E and it can be done. Keep on trying. It took me a while but the results are worth it. I kept on trying and then it just loaded properly, as if by accident! Try this link, if you haven't already.. NVIDIA Driver - Convert from Desktop to Mobile (Laptop)
Make sure you have the latest DESKTOP driver from Nvidia to modify - though it sounds strange!
