Cannot detect my nvidia 335m gt graphics card after update

    Hello,
I have an alienware laptop with an nvidia 335m gt graphics card and it works perfectly for about a week. Then after an update, it can't be detected. This is the second time this has happened, the first time I just reformatted and it was back. Now after about the same amount of updates, it's not being detected again and the system reverts to one called "dell chipset family". The nvidia geforce program is still installed, however when I run it, it can't find the graphics card either. Please help lol I don't want to have to reformat every week because I'm not savvy enough to figure out what the problem is.

    Thank you
    Ricky

You should not be installing this update.

Download the video drivers directly from Dell.

Uninstall any video drivers you have now.

Install the drivers you downloaded from Dell.

    It will now be fixed.

Laptops are different, you need the driver from Dell and do not let windows update it.

Make sure windows is set to let you know about updates, but let you decide whether to install them, do not install any video drivers using windows update.

Thanks for the reply but it's not installing due to it not detecting the card at all. What should I do from here?

I did the first time, but the only driver it saw was the "Chipset family" one. Now it doesn't detect either in device manager. Everytime I try to install the drivers from dell's website it says "cannot detect nvidia card" and now it's just super grainy with huge icons on my desktop. It won't even play video.

Thanks for the replies, I appreciate it. The second time this happened I did restore it back to the day before the update, but it still wasn't detecting the card at all. Even though I restored it to a point when it was. I think I might just have to wipe again and turn off all windows updates. I enjoy learning new things about my pc, but I think it's a shame I feel like I'm having to trick it into not trusting it's own OS updates. So frustrating lol

you don't need to turn off all windows updates and you should not do that anyways you can have it set to notify you of the updates and then just hide any updates that are for the graphics.
