DVI cable problem with a new video adapter

Just recently, two weeks before I got my new video adapter: MSI Radeon R9 and as soon as I set up everything, the screen didn't display anything because the new video adapter didn't support my old used vga-vga cable.

Later on, (to be specific, today) I just got the desired DVI-D dual link (Dvi-Dvi) cable and connected it. I turned on the PC and the monitor did not display anything either. I also tried pushing the AUTO button on the monitor and switching to Digital source, thus nothing happened again.

All in all, monitor can't detect any Dvi-Dvi cable connection with my new video adapter and I'm sitting here watching E3 on tablet. Any help, please?

What resolution is your video card set to? Perhaps your monitor can't display the video card is outputting. Can you see the BIOS screen when booting up? What is the make/model of the monitor?

The resolution is 1440x900 as the manual says. BIOS doesn't display either. The model is 961BW

Any on board video card?

Did you try a CMOS reset?

No and no. How does a CMOS reset work? I haven't tried it.

The Samsung 961BW native resolution is 1440x900.
With the DVI dual-link cable, that R9 has a resolution of up to 2560x1600 @60 Hz. That's more than your monitor can handle. I wonder if the dual link cable causes the R9 to automatically output a higher resolution (something over 1440x900).

Can you get a standard DVI cable to test with?

So, I would need a higher resolution monitor that R9 could handle? And I just tested with a standard DVI cable, no luck.

No, I don't think the monitor is the problem. Just that the monitor you have can't display the full resolution that the card is capable of - but it would still work at a lower resolution. If a standard DVI cable didn't work either, than I'm thinking the R9 is faulty.

One other thought - that R9 is power hungry. Do you have a large enough power supply? You need at least a 500W power supply. Also, many of these gaming cards have an extra power plug (like 6 or 8 pin power plug) that also plugs into the card. Did you hook this up (if you have it)?

Check your motherboard manual how to perform a CMOS reset.

It seems that the cable output to the computer was putted wrongly, so I changed to the black DVI output and everything works fine.
