    NVIDIA GeForce 6200 Turbo Cache

Did clean install ,tried to install lastest drivers ( 185.85 WHQL), During the install I get "Can't Init Direct 3d", then it stops. The system won't run any of the MS games such as Chess, ect.. When you try to run them I get a 3d error..
Any ideas would be greatly apprecited..

Hi. Show us your device manager with display adapters and system devices maximized please. You can type "device manager" and "snip" for those apps in the start menu search box. Hit enter after each.

There is a later driver from NVidia's site but that won't help you much if your problem is what I suspect. Good to download that for now anyway.

You can attach screenshots to your post using the paperclip.

Please fill out your system specs on here because that will be very helpful to diagnosing and repairing the problem.

Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately I am at work and my wife is at home with the computer and her tolerance for being a go between is VERY low, so it may be a couple of hours before I can post the screenshots. I did ask her what was listed as the adapter prior to attempting the driver install, it was “NVIDIA GeForce 6200 Turbo Cache (TM) (Microsoft Corporation - WDDM)”..

I'm guessing that the computer is old and/or it needs an update for the CPU to AGP driver. That's most likely the problem in this case. If there are any yellow exclamation points in device manager, then it is definitely the problem.

Update the chipset drivers if you can find any that work with Vista. If it's an nForce3 or lower motherboard, it will not work on Windows 7 or Vista.

    It's all in the details...

I think I know what you were getting at.. I have an Intel d945gcz
Board, and Intel has on the website that this board is not Windows 7 compliant and they will not be creating drivers for it.. SO… I think I am totally out of luck and Windows 7 will never work right on this PC..
