Windows 7 forces NVIDIA GTX570 to use VGASAve driver
Windows 7 failing to recognise and or set up video card GTX570 correctly when booting
I am experiencing difficulties with my new install of Windows 7 x64 Ultimate. After booting windows the display adaptor is identified as GTX570 but setting driver to VGAsave, and ignores the GTX570 drivers which exist on system. I then enter Windows safe mode where the Device Manager lists the Display Adapter as NVIDIA GeForce GTX570, properties of the display continues to show VGASave. On advice I uninstall Display adapter. Then restart windows in normal mode which I understand allows windows to detect the GTX570 adapter and install correct drivers. Device Manager shows a display adapter as NVIDIA GeForce GTX570 with a yellow(!) and automatically begins to install drivers then asking to Restart machine. As I have previously downloaded from NVIDIA the driver file '355.60-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql.exe' I run this file which extracts and installs the drivers asking for a restart. Before restarting I check Device Manager to see the Display Adapter is set to NVIDIA GeForce GTX570 with a yellow(!) and that the driver is set to the latest version 355.60 just installed. I restart the PC, windows splash screen starts and the screen is black! I have been around this loop several times and nothing appears to work! ![]() |

Try last three WHQL drivers for your graphics card.
Before every install, uninstall the previously installed driver using Display Driver Uninstaller. Does the computer detect the graphics card with either of the drivers installed? If yes, use that one. If the situation is the same irrespective of the display driver version installed, the issue is with the graphics card. In order to be sure, apply the graphics card to any other computer and see how it goes. |

Thank you. i downloaded the uninstaller and NVIDIA 355.82
Uninstaller run from Safe mode removed NVIDIA components. Installed 355.82 and restarted windows. i now have the screen background showing, mouse icon but no other screen features. A right click on background allowed me to explore the display settings and I discovered that the video card is working, driver 355.82 installed etc. From here I got to the control panel, some features work but many do not appear on screen. It is as if Explorer is not running? I was able to add an item to the desktop, a new word file - double clicking this must have started word as I cannot delete this file as it tells me file is open in word. I think this proves windows is running but the screen is not quite right. I have restarted to see if things improve but the same situation exists.any suggestions? Thanks again |

Post #21 Windows 7 in-place upgrade install fails Quote:
I now need to sort up the activation codes as windows is telling me it has expired and the 'starting windows' screen is stuck although there is a lot of HDD activity
Did you ever get Windows 7 Activated? |

Windows 7 is activated and running, but I experienced problems with the video card drivers.
I raised another thread in the Graphic cards section. Thank you |

Yes all working, for an unknown reason the #2 output was being displayed on my monitor. Consequently the desktop was not showing. I changed things around and everything is now working OK.
The resolution of the display adaptor was clearly the main issue which you kindly resolved. Thank you. |
