Windows 7: Dual Monitor Problem

Dual Monitor Problem

I have just built a new machine the last three weeks and finally last night I was ready to complete my final transfer from old to new computer. That meant adding my 2nd monitor to my new machine.

My graphics card is a GeForce 9400gt. I have the latest drivers from Nvidia's web site. New machine with W7 has been working for 2 weeks with a single monitor.

Windows 7 Home
Athlon 955 Black Quad Core 3.2 MH
8 GB Ram
GeForce 9400gt

Both monitors are fairly new. The graphics card has one DVI and one VGA input so I must set up my dual monitors that way,

My problem is when I hook up my 2nd Monitor I get the BSOD. I will spend 1 more night trying to fix it but that is it.

So my questions are as follows:

1. Does anymore have any ideas why The BSOD comes up when my 2nd monitor is plugged in?

2. Does anyone using Windows 7 have a working graphics card with a dual monitor set up that is working? If so, what card is it? I may be buying one tomorrow.

Thank You!

Try to install the monitor's driver by doing a Windows Update or install it manually after downloading from the maker's website. (You can do the latter in safe mode + networking.)

If that doesn't help, go to C:\Windows\Minidump and use Winrar on the files to create a .rar

Attach the .rar to a post and we can look at it to see if we can determine the likely cause.

If your mobo has onboard video you might try setting the Nvidia as the default in the bios, its not common but I have seen issues when adding a card. And torrentg nice cab, have one just like it and a 2x12. MESA!

Win 7 - 64 Pro

It sounds like you are connecting the second monitor while the machine is running. In theory, that should be okay. But if you have not yet tried this, then connect the second monitor with machine "off", and boot up. Let Windows 'see' the new monitor that way.

I have had strange USB\DVI problems with Vista and Win 7 by connecting things "live".

Yes, it should be okay, but stuff happens.
