Windows 7: Windows 7 with Radeon HD 5770

Well I am no expert, and I am not quite sure. But I think it is to make sure that the clock of the CPU and the graphic card are not the same. On my computer both the CPU and the graphic card was running on 700Mhz. By increasing the graphic card to 705Mhz, it prevents windows from mixing up the clocks.

In the Bios for my motherboard, there is an option to set clock speed for the PCI express card. In my case that to was set by default to 700Mhz, so I did change it to 800Mhz. The changes in the Catalyst setup did not have any effect before I did that. Its a stupid thing but if u use a new gigabyte motherboard, I think it can be worth taking a look at.

Oldie XP I want Win7 but No Signal Input on installation

Hi all
i have a same kind of problem.
I use ATI RADEON HD 5770 on XP, no problem at all. Gaming most games at high settings for hours.
Now i want to install Win7 next to XP, i install it on a seccond clean drive (35gb free space).
But when the instalation starts, 5 seconds later the monitor says No Signal Input so i cancel the instalation.
Happent serval times. I want to see whats happening so i cancel instal, and format the drive again.
I had this problem a couple of months ago with vista. i was able to get it installed with no problems at all.
But after 10/20 minutes same problem No Signal Input even doing nothing on desktop, tryed win7 same.
But if i launched a game before it is going to crash (Just Cause 2) i can play normal, but after closing the game, 5 seconds later No Signal Input.
I did the test to see if i can run Win7 that was all ok.
I tryed only using my Samung full HD without the monitor pluged, same thing happent.
I will try some things later sayd in this topic, see if that works.
Man, i wanna use DirectX 10/11 in my games!!

Just some updates here on I've tried from around the internet, since I'm still having this problem.
  • Someone (I can't remember if it was here or not) mentioned a recommendation to overclock the GPU just slightly above the original clock. Can't remember the reason why this would do anything. Either way, it did nothing for me.
  • I have been using ATI Tray Tools to keep my GPU at 850Mhz, and Memory at 1200Mhz, which did fix the artifacting, but not the crashing.
  • Someone on a forum mentioned setting PCI latency in your computer's bios up to 128 (my default was 64). This did nothing.
  • Sometimes I would have luck starting a game in windowed mode, and then fullscreen it after a few minutes of play. I think this was just a fluke though, because I had a game crash in windowed mode for the first time tonight.
  • Creating a profile in Catalyst Control Center and manually editing the XML file to set voltage and clock speeds. This also did absolutely nothing.

This is really obnoxious because I can't get more than about 20 minutes of Mass Effect in anymore without it locking up. Sometimes, I can hit control-alt-delete and get out to the task manager. From there, one of two things happens: #1, I alt-tab back into the game, at which point it crashes irrecoverably a second later. Or #2, I close out all programs, log off, and then log back in and try the game, which then crashes just a few minutes in.

Only powering off the computer seems to do anything to reset the "odds" of it crashing. A very perplexing situation.

I'm really at my wits end, and no drivers that I've tried yet have fixed the problem. To make things worse, XFX support randomly stopped replying to my emails (we had a nice little thread going, with response no more than 8 hours after I would email them). I haven't heard from them in over a week.

The only remaining things I can think of to try are:
  • Driver-sweep my Catalyst 10.7 drivers, and try the version specifically from XFX.
  • Delete and reinstall Windows 7 32-bit (supposedly this problem only happens on 64-bit versions?)
  • Try upgrading the 5770's bios

Has anyone made anymore headway, or are we pretty much all just stuck trying a bunch of different workarounds?

as i understand: only overclocked cards have problems? solution is to stop overclocking, then?
or is it specific manufacturer's cards? XFX, HIS? bios problem?

mine MSI 5770 is working without any problems whatsoever. it's tiny little bit overclocked from factory, though. like 25MHz more or something.

No.

My card is not overclocked, and it has problems. I have tried overclocking as well as underclocking in an attempt to solve this problem, but to no avail.

Also, there are many threads in many forums across the internet filled with owners of ATI's 5000-series cards who have the same problem. It's not just one brand, and it's not even just the 5770.

Hi PhaseShift, to me it sound like a classic heat problem. I am sure you already have tested your card for heat, but if not it might be worth doing.

I used FunMark to test mine. My card did go from normally around 30 to 70 degrees under max load.

hmm... weird. if different brands then it could be (as Gehaa mentioned) cooling problem.

or maybe it needs more wattage because PSU is too weak
