    Second Monitor started having lag

I'm at a loss for words describing the issue but I will try my best.

This just started happening with no apparent cause.
When using my second monitor moving windows over is very choppy and freezes the screen until I drop the window, the mouse moves fine but if I use a drag select it goes choppy into freezing. I have had two monitors for a long time and never had any problems I usually watch a video on my main monitor and play runescape on the second monitor however it is now too choppy to do anything.

So here is the weird part, its only laggy in the middle of the monitor i can use the top bottom and sides fine but if I move anything to far into the center its choppy and laggy

I tried to do some reading but couldn't really find a solution, it might be an frame rate issue but no settings seem out of whack and the issue just randomly popped up.

I can try to make a .gif or webm of what the monitor looks like when I try to use it if my description isn't helpful enough.

    Main monitor: Asus VE248 (Asus VE248H Black 24" 2ms Full HD LCD Monitor w/Speakers - Newegg.com)

    Secondary: Viewsonic VX1962wm (ViewSonic X Series VX1962wm Black 19" 5ms, 2ms (GTG) Widescreen LCD Monitor 300 cd/m2 DC 6000:1(1000:1) Built-in Speakers - Newegg.com)

Both are connected via Dvi-D cables

    Thank you for your help,
    Najushua

Edit: This is ONLY on the second monitor

Update: when I turned computer on today the monitor had lots of vertical lines running down it. Turned itself off and on a couple of times and eventually turned on with the rest of the computer.

Seems like its a hardware problem so I'll see if I can move this thread over to the hardware section. Still taking suggestions for a fix, however if there are none also taking suggestions for a new cheap monitor. It is a secondary monitor so it doesn't need to be too fancy or have great picture honestly its mostly just for multitasking but I cant stand square monitors.

I convinced my roommate who uses a second monitor with his laptop to switch monitors with me to see if mine would work on his and vise versa. Mine worked just fine and his worked just fine on my system, when I plugged my monitor back in it works just fine however there is a slight hum coming from the monitor that I am unsure if it existed before (you can only hear it with your ear against the vents).

I don't know how attached is a picture of what my monitor looked like when i first turned on my PC in the morning.

When you hooked up your roommate's monitor, did it suffer from the lag, too?

I'm wondering if this might be a problem with your graphics card...

On my roomates laptop using the monitor the lag was gone however when using box select it left a slight ghost

The lag is gone and the monitor is working fine right now. I don't know why it suddenly started working again since I did nothing to try and fix it since it looked this morning (picture above)

It was making a high pitched humming/buzzing sound and was doing the thing where its laggy in the center but not margins of the monitor when I first turned on my computer today, but I unplugged it and replugged it in (without turning off computer) and its working fine again.

Could be the cable, I can switch the DVI-D from my main monitor over and see if that does anything.

    Added:
When I leave dorm I turn off monitors and let PC idle, when I got back the second monitor had stopped working again after turning it back on. unplugging it and replugging it in temporarily fixed it again, switched the DVI-D cables from main to secondary monitor to see if that makes any difference.

Okay new information. The monitor turns on and off with the screen displaying the vertical lines with color, then it eventually turns on "correctly" and displays my screen saver however the middle of the screen is laggy, unplugging the DVI cable and replugging does nothing to fix it, it is when I unplug the power cable and plug it back in that the monitor works properly again HOWEVER it only temporarily fixes it AND it only works when I unplug and replug it AFTER it properly displays my screen saver, if I unplug in replug in the power when it shows the vertical lines it does not fix anything.

I am going to try and switch the power cables of the monitors to see if that fixes anything if not I believe it has something to do with the power supply inside the monitor If I am to take it apart what should I be looking for (I have less experience with the hardware side of things) I can take pictures if helps.

Since this has gone fully into a hardware issue I am going to see if the thread can be moved, if not I will see if I can have it deleted and I'll make a new post in the hardware section.

Switching the power cables didn't solve the issue. Tomorrow I will take the monitor apart and see if I can identify anything out of the ordinary. Any ideas on what specifically to look for? I will take pictures after I have opened it up.

If you don't know anything about electronics, I don't recommend that you open the monitor. There's nothing inside that you will be able to fix, and there can be high voltages inside, especially if you leave it plugged in to test it while you're poking around in there.

Take it to a shop, or throw it away, but don't try to fix it yourself. An improperly repaired monitor can be a fire hazard.

    i agree with Mellon Head

you would be better off getting a new monitor and having this one repaired would probably cost as much as a new one and if the monitor is still in warranty then rma it.
