Wrong Recommended resolution unable to do 1920 x 108 pr

I have a custom PC connected to a 46" Sceptre TV via vga. The native resolution of the TV is 1920 x 1080. I had vista on the pc at first and I just updated to Windows 7 ( clean install) . But windows 7 is recommending a resolution of 1360 x 768 which makes my games and 1080p movies play and look wierd. I never had this issue with vista, i was able to do 1920 x 1080 but with windows 7 when i put it into 1920 x 1080 both left and right edges are missing about 1nch and both side is unseen. so my start menu and clock is hidden. I use mircosoft driver and the video card drivers but to no luck

Im running a core 2 duo pc 2.6ghz with a LG GGC H20L Super Multi Blue, BFG-NVIDIA GeForce 9800, 6TB (total) Hard Drives.

I have read multiple forums about 1080p problems but I haven't seen any problem exactly like mine. I have updated and rollback drivers but still got a failure. I even updated my TV firmware and the problem still exist.


Any suggestion on fixing my problem?

Have you gone into your "Screen Resolution," then Advanced Settings. In the advance settings there should be a Geforce 9800 tab; this tab will take you into the Nvidia Control Panel, and help you in setting up your TV, and your video card. Hope this helps. :)

Honestly, this is all I read and stopped there. Connect with a digital solution instead.

I agree with torrentg. Go to Amazon and get your self a DVI to HDMI cable, they have very good prices and the picture quality will improve.

torrentg and n0th1n9 your suggestions were my first thoughts. I have tried that. I have both tried a dvi to hdmi adapter and cables. but the problem still remain. I was able to do 1920 x 1080 with VGA when I was using Vista. I don't believe its a cable problem

I have check many settings in the nvidia control panel but it never fully fix my problem

VGA is a problem alone because it severely decreases quality.

Look for overscan/underscan setting in NVIDIA Control Panel.

I agree with you, I think it must be a problem with Windows 7.

In my setup (Samsung Q45 connected via VGA to Samsung 32" LED TV) it was no problem with Vista to get 1920x1080, but with Windows 7 I fail with the same hardware!

In Vista, over VGA a lot of TVs were regocgnized correctly (I was in a big store with name and offered resolutions.

But under Windows 7 on the same computer, the TVs are NOT recognized (I just get "Standard PnP Monitor"), and the max is 1600x1200 that is offered.

I used in both scenarios the newest NVIDIA drivers.

Maybe Windows 7 wants to push HDMI technology? I do not understand why. I have three laptops, all only with VGA, so I depend on VGA.

could you please post how you fixed the problem? I have the same problem, cannot get 1920x1080 working with Windows 7. With Vista it was no problem with the same hardware setup.
