What's the BEST procedure for swapping gfx cards?

I'm getting an eVGA e-GeForce GTX 285 soon, and I currently have a BFG GeForce 8800 GTX in my system. I usually uninstall the graphics driver I have installed, and then swap the card and install it's new driver. Is there any other "better" way, or is that pretty much the standard procedure?

Is a registry sweep recommended to get rid of any remaining driver components? Do you recommend any programs to do this?

You have it pritty much down to a tee.
One thing I would do slightly different is to boot into safe mode when removing the drivers.

To get rid of reminents of anything you can use CCleaner but review the results before doing anything.

Remember to remove any control centre that may be installed with the card. You can always reinstall a newer version when installing the new card.

its always advised to uninstall the old driver (as roy has stated)....... but not essential

the card going in will run on the same driver as the 8800, if you were just to leave the drivers, unplug the 8800 & chuck in the GTX285....you would need to reboot twice & the card would pick up the existing driver...

but to answer your question, its best to uninstall & reinstall.

Thanks for the replies! Installed without any software driver related issues!
