    Updating video card

Can anyone tell me where I can download JUST the Display Driver for my video card?
I need to update, as mine shows v8.861.0.0 (pic 1). But when I try, I get the 'best driver' message.
I've downloaded the package separately, which shows the current version should be 9.002.0.0000 (pic 2). But when I go through the customized setup, I cannot deselect the AMD Catalyst Install Manager.

The Catalyst Install Manager is used to install the driver. No way around it as far as I know.

Doing the .inf method doesn't really change anything. Better use the catalyst setup, it's much more easier and safer.

AddRAM: I don't already have the Catalyst Control Center & have never had it.

I didn't use the Catalyst Install Manager when I 1st built my system & was trying to remember how I installed the driver before. An older system I used to have did have Catalyst, but I never had a need for it & doubt I would use it now.

What I mostly need to know is why trying to update, I get the 'best driver' message but the manual installer shows a newer version than the 1 I have; it's strange.

Where did you download that version from?

The reason you can't uncheck it is because it's the thing installing it,

Have you tried unpacking it with 7zip if it's an .exe and just pointing device manager to the drivers folder instead of searching for it?

derekimo: I have an Asus brand card, so I just downloaded from their website.
I tried the method you mentioned & it has seemed to work out as seen below.
    Thank you for the advice.

I kind of figured that's where you got it, I didn't actually run the installer but it had a different version number on the .exe so I wasn't sure.

Glad you got it to work.

    You're welcome.
