And do I have to check for any further incompatibilities or hidden numbers in my existing motherboard model so as I don't end up buying the wrong card?

Well you haven't posted any information about your machine so that is hard to say :)
You can use cpuid/ cpu-z and post the Mainboard/ cpu/ memory sections
CPU-Z | Softwares | CPUID
You can also open the side of the case and take a picture of the inside

I've made a simple modification on my previous graphics card that is a silent edition. Put a fan on it (Super glue it) 80mm will do but be careful on the graphics card it may not sit on the PCI-E slot properly. I still agree on ThrashZone on getting the 2GB DDR5 version. Only choose the silent version if your case has enough fans to cool it off (My GeForce 210 doesn't have one and the chassis has a 120mm front fan). Changing the thermal compound is another solution to thermal problems (But I wouldn't reccomend doing it every year, just a maximum of 1.5 years will do and a cleaning will do the trick.)
