Normally, this is done through the PSU mounting, but it can be done via a link wire as well. This is to prevent damage to the components of your PC should you touch your case if you have built-up static on yourself. Also, the 0V line is usually connected electrically to the case of the PSU internally, and hence to the mounting points on the motherboard via the chassis. This is why it is especially important to ensure that ALL mounting points on your motherboard are securely fastened to the chassis.
Uuuuuuh....
A PSU carries it's own Ground and does not need the case to do so.

My chassis already has a ton of anti-vibration material around the PSU, it's not that.

What card did you have previously? My 8800 GTX whined a little, but it was barely audible.

Grats on the upgrade!

I had an 8800GT and thanks

Is there any hope of it going away?

I only really notice it during the main menu of Crysis and GTA IV (it will appear occasionally but I just have to restart the game and it goes away). It kind of adds to the ambient jungle noise in Crysis so I don't mind it but in GTA IV it just annoys me.

I had to buy a new PSU as well so it cost me something like $770 AUD to upgrade just two parts.

From what I've read the only way to make it go away is to either:

A: RMA the graphics card (if it's the card emitting the whine).
or
B: Get an even better PSU (if it's your PSU making the whine).

I've narrowed it down to my PSU 100% now (using a tone tuner that I use on my Bagpipes), so I guess I'll be upgrading to the ABS Tagan BZ that I wanted...

However, I just got my eVGA nForce 780i SLI FTW motherboard replacement. I'm going to go and do a picture shoot/installation now. bbl!

The place I bought it from has a return within seven days and no questions asked policy .

I might return my it... but I might just put up with it.

Note: I bought a new PSU for my GTX. I am pretty sure it is not my PSU but are there any tell-tale signs (aside from the whine) that I could expect if it were the PSU?

Alternately, what signs (again apart from the whine) would indicate it were coming from the graphics card and not the PSU?

OK. I returned the card and they gave me a new one.

It whines under load too. I know it is not my PSU as I was using my 8800GT for about a week and no whine (just a buzzing noise if I go behind my computer).

I am F@h right now and the whine is going to drive me crazy! I will get used to it but does anybody know any backyard cures for capacitor whine.

One of my friends solved his capacitor whine by hitting his card... several times. Not really up for this.

Any help will be great.

Do think it could just be the fan that's making the noise?

No, the fan is at 40% all the time.

It is a very high pitched squeal not a grinding noise.

LCD Screen Whine
Okay, so my LCD monitor has been whining when I first turn it on, but once I get a display from my computer, the whining stops. This has been happening maybe about half a month to a year after I bought it back when I was in high school. The monitor is still good and still awesome, however I do...

Corsair HX750 PSU coil whine after PC shut down
My Corsair HX750 PSU has the tendency to "whine" after I shut down my computer. It's very irritating and I need to turn off the PSU from the back for the whining to stop. It doesn't whine whilst my computer is turned on. Would/could this be covered under warranty and would I get a replacement...

Graphics card squeal - is it normal with a GPU fan?
Is it true that fan-related squeals from graphics cards are normal? I have NVIDIA GeForce 9300, and it emits a low squealing noise that stops after around 5 minutes. It comes up randomly again and stops again after a matter of seconds. So far nothing has happened. It HAS a GPU fan, so I'd like to...

Coil Whine worrying me....
Hey! My Graphics card emits a squeaky noise that stops sometimes and then resumes some time afterwards. I have found it's a coil whine and that it's normal. Is this true. Have I anything to worry about? And will it cause my system to crash? Thanks! :D

Bad crash during sleep, high pitched squeal
My system components were perfectly stable under Vista, without a reset for days or weeks at a time. DxDiag.txt attached for components. But with Seven, I'll leave my system on (sometimes downloading) and in the middle of the night we'll be woken up by what sounds like a smoke detector. The PC...
