I had an 8800GT and thanks :)
Is there any hope of it going away?
I only really notice it during the main menu of Crysis and GTA IV (it will appear occasionally but I just have to restart the game and it goes away). It kind of adds to the ambient jungle noise in Crysis so I don't mind it but in GTA IV it just annoys me.
I had to buy a new PSU as well so it cost me something like $770 AUD to upgrade just two parts.
From what I've read the only way to make it go away is to either:
A: RMA the graphics card (if it's the card emitting the whine).
or
B: Get an even better PSU (if it's your PSU making the whine).
I've narrowed it down to my PSU 100% now (using a tone tuner that I use on my Bagpipes), so I guess I'll be upgrading to the ABS Tagan BZ that I wanted... :)
However, I just got my eVGA nForce 780i SLI FTW motherboard replacement. I'm going to go and do a picture shoot/installation now. bbl!
The place I bought it from has a return within seven days and no questions asked policy :).
I might return my it... but I might just put up with it.
Note: I bought a new PSU for my GTX. I am pretty sure it is not my PSU but are there any tell-tale signs (aside from the whine) that I could expect if it were the PSU?
Alternately, what signs (again apart from the whine) would indicate it were coming from the graphics card and not the PSU?
OK. I returned the card and they gave me a new one.
It whines under load too. I know it is not my PSU as I was using my 8800GT for about a week and no whine (just a buzzing noise if I go behind my computer).
I am F@h right now and the whine is going to drive me crazy! I will get used to it but does anybody know any backyard cures for capacitor whine.
One of my friends solved his capacitor whine by hitting his card... several times. Not really up for this.
Any help will be great.
