Switch to Low-Res 768 from 1080 whilst browsing. Cannot change

I've been working this issue for hours.
Whilst simply browsing the screen dimmed slightly and switched from 1080 to 768. I cannot change it back.
Selecting Change screen resolution only gives me 768 as maximum choice (calls it recommended setting).

I was on win10 pro, but downgraded with a fresh install back to Win 7 pro and still the same issue.

Bios is up to date
Device Drivers up to date and uninstalled and reinstalled, no change.
Hardware diags all OK

I'm stumped.
Other than the 768 resolution, the machine is running really well.
