    AMD APU graphics

Not strictly about a graphics card but an APU. Does anybody know why a AMD APU A6 6400K Black Edition 3.9GHz Socket FM2 1MB L2 Cache would struggle to play YouTube and BBC iPlayer videos. Processor shows 90-100% usage. It is only less than a year old on a Asus FM-2 motherboard.

    Use a different driver.

Experiment til it works, no way should it have trouble playing youtube.

It`s not a downloading issue is it ?

Does it play a dvd ok, other video ?

What browser are you using ?

    APU graphics

Running Process Explorer nothing else seems to be 'hogging' the processor, just the standard windows processes and anti-virus. I get the same result in all three browsers and the drivers are the latest AMD ones.
In my main pc, same broadband connection, with another AMD Radeon HD5450 the processor hardly touches 25% at any time. It is however a quad core AMD. I am beginning to think that I shall have to slot in a dedicated graphics card because these APUs are not really up to the job.

APUs are a compromise at best, and your APU isn't rated very highly from what I can see on the 'net. You may have to opt for a discrete graphics card to get the most out of the machine.

That being said, my single core Pentium laptop will play youtube videos just fine. There is no reason that your A6 shouldn't. There must be an issue somewhere. I can see if it won't play GTA V or Fallout 4 properly, but youtube videos should be a piece of cake.

Perhaps you don't have enough video memory allocated in BIOS?

Thanks for your reply. This is the first time I have dealt with APU's so I am not quite sure how to proceed. How do I allocate it extra memory?Grateful for your help.

I have the same PC in the office. I'll check and see and get back to you. :)

Well, I looked at my PC and it doesn't have anything in BIOS to set the video memory, but it's not the greatest board ASUS makes. In fact, it's a pretty crappy board...

But I digress. Could you post the exact model number of your motherboard, please? I would like to look it up and see the video options before offering further advice.
