My HP laptop sometimes wont display when I boot.

Hi, I have been chasing ghosts on this machine for years but I would LOVE to have it work like it should.
The machine is an HP pavilion 17-e049wm.

The following link has all of its specs. It truly is a sweet machine when it works.
HP Pavilion 17-e049wm Notebook PC Product Specifications | HP(R) Customer Support

Things you should know. I converted it to windows 7 right after I bought it with the help of you guys. It worked for about a year. All graphics drivers and BIOS versions are current. I have tried all HP suggestions (swapping ram, holding power button without battery or cord for 1 minute, etc.) The problem is all of these suggestions assume that the monitor doesn't display period. The monitor will sometimes display the bios when I boot and sometimes not. The computer boots fully either way however, I just cant see it.

When the laptop monitor doesn't come on I use an external monitor and whats funny is the computer detects both monitors. So what is up with the intermittent screen? Also, if I leave the computer on forever the screen runs strong. When I let the monitor go blank with the screen saver it ALWAYS comes back on when the mouse is moved. I don't think it is the monitor that is bad, infact im using it to type this message now. I am just out of ideas of what is up.

Do you know if there is something that would refresh or re detect the screen when I am logged into windows? Pushing the power button over and over usually gets the screen to turn on but is there a way to do it in windows instead of the power button? I would have thought that the F4 key would help but it doesn't

I need some inventive diagnostic ideas.
Thanks

Do you hear windows startup sounds? If so, it may be the GPU overheating and refusing to display so it can cool down. It may need a thermal paste replacement.

My speakers are on mute so I don't here anything (no error beeps either) but when I plug in the external monitor I see that it booted successfully. If it was the GPU, why would the external monitor work? Wouldn't both monitors refuse to display?
Another mention is that I did take this laptop apart and reseat the cable for the laptop monitor. I didn't see any improvements so it wasn't that.

Edit: I went ahead and read the CPU and GPU temperatures. The CPU says it is 34c right now and its max value since boot was 44c The GPU says it is 34c and its max value since boot was 37c

Um I had an idea, does anyone know how my particular laptop knows if the lid is open or not? It seems when the monitor gives me a really hard time and I end up pushing the power button excessively (AKA just now) if I move the monitor slightly the monitor will turn on the next restart.

Is there some sensor in the hinge or am I slowly loosing my mind?

Edit: Upon some research on ebay it doesn't appear that the sensor is in the hinges. I dont see any wires coming out anywhere.

External monitor works....That could be the port of the screen panel not seated correctly.

Not sure if this will help but as for detecting the monitor in windows you can go to the adapter properties and press the detect button
