Dual monitor full screen games glitchy

I use two screens: a 1920x1080 primary on the right, and a 1360x768 secondary on the left in extended mode. When I launch a fullscreen game (not in borderless window mode), it appears in the primary monitor and the second one goes completely black. Some games, when alt-tabbed, minimize or go into window mode, at which point the second monitor will become active again. Now here is the strange bit: after putting the game into fullscreen mode again, the second monitor won't go black and I can use it for other stuff while playing. Except for some games, which will always turn my secondary monitor black, whatever I do.

My aim is to be able to use the second monitor while the game is in fullscreen on the primary monitor. Note that not all games support borderless window mode, so it's not a good solution.

I use a GeForce GTX 970 with 353.62 WHQL driver version. The reason I don't update is because any more recent drivers will crash my Desktop Windows Manager constantly thus disabling Aero themes and such. I also use DisplayFusion for a taskbar on my second monitor.

Any help is appreciated.
