My monitor won't come out of sleep mode

l was browsing youtube when my monitor suddenly went into sleep mode, for a reason l can't figure out

After restarting my computer the moniter immediately went into safe mode without displaying an image. I've tried unplugging and plugging back in the power cord and the DVI-D cable from both ends.

I don't know what to do from this point on and l dont know much about computers or hardware.
I'm using my phone to post this.

Ok Humerus mate if you can get it into safe mode (shut the machine down and leave for a few seconds then power up while tapping the F8 button) please run these.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker
Disk Check < if necessary include the /f switch and if this does not make any improvement then just run this switch instead /r in the command line as per Option2
Run these in safe mode and the sfc often best run for two to three runs – you can leave out the /r switch in ckdsk if you feel it not necessary

    Post back what happens.

I'm fairly positive l can boot my PC in safe mode, but how can l run these commands if l can't see whats happening? The moniter is black the whole time. Aside from a brief message saying its going into power save mode.

Hmm maybe that is the card you have in so why not try the machine with it out? The other thing is have you tried another cable or a new one? You do have integrated graphics on that board.

Having said that just how long does that message last??

The message lasts for 3 seconds

I'd like to know precisely what brand and model monitor you have - its missing from your profile specs...

"After restarting my computer the monitor immediately went into safe mode without displaying an image"

I'm not sure what you mean here, as the computer itself has a safe mode, but we're only talking about the monitor so maybe you mean something different. Can you describe exactly what you are seeing just in layman's terms?

The first thing we need to figure out is, is your monitor itself having the problem. Best way to do that is to use a different monitor in its place like you said, or see if there is anything else in the house you can hook the monitor to such as a cable tv box or another computer.

Yes mate I am with John try that other monitor and it may be that you have to get possibly a VGA cable to try it.

The thing I don't get though having said all I have is that you say the monitor goes into sleep mode - it is usually a setting on the machine that does that the monitor unless you have some fancy high tech model doesn't have any systems that would allow that.

The question I asked is that as you have a dedicated GPU card in the machine it would be worth trying removing it and see if the monitor works off the board built in graphics. You just plug the monitor into the board graphics connection instead of the one it is plugged into now.

I have attached a couple of pics and I hope they will et you see what I mean.

    I hit send by mistake,

In the inage you attached, the lowest and biggest white socket is the one l have, lm unsure as to what you mean for me to do.
Do you mean for me to remove the plate its attached to and plug it directly to that disk looking thing behind it..? Or is it already done?

No I meant to physically take out that GPU inside the machine and use the board DVI (white connection) socket because taking the card out reverts the machine back to using the on board graphics. This is just to test to see if the problem lies within that GPU.

If you are unsure how to do this we can walk you through it the alternative is to take it toa repair shop but it is very easy to do this and avoid any costs.

Now I think the pics are explained enough but if you have problems please post back. Just remember the one of the computer opened up id only for an example but is typical of what you should see.

Also this GPU is quite an old model and has quite low specs too so why I think it might just be the problem.
