Windows are wrong size after switching GPUs

Hi y'all

Since I've changed my GPU from an AMD R9 290 to an Nvidia GTX1080, my W7 is showing an odd behaviour regarding windows that aren't snapped to a side of the monitor or maximized, ie "floating" like my file explorer. When I shut off my monitor or when it disables the video signal after a few minutes (screen saver) and I then reactivate it, the floating windows are resized to approx. 640x480px and are located in the upper left corner. When the monitor is deactivated, I hear the typical "something disconnected" sound as well as the other sound when it reconnects. I found the following keys to edit in the registry, but my files are named differently (although the subfolders are identical) and it didn't change anything. I know it started occuring after I swapped the GPU, but I uninstalled the drivers with the Disk Driver Uninstaller tool.

How can I stop windows re-positioning after waking from sleep? - Super User

Also, my desktop icons are all messed up after each time the monitor is shut off or in sleep mode. I tried the Nvidia drivers 382.05 and 382.33, changing didn't do anything.

Does anyone have an idea what's going on? System: W7 Ultimate x64, i7 6800k, 32GB DDR4 RAM, GTX 1080, MSI X99a Raider, Asus MG278Q connected via display plort. I'd appreciate any help, I don't really know what to do and I'd like to avoid reinstalling or upgrading to W10 :/

Hi,
Nice build
Not sure what would cause that except drive clashes
Have you tried clean boot ?

Hi,

I'll try that and get back to you, but it will probably take me a few days.

Hi again after a long time

I've found not necessarily THE solution, but a solution. After Windows killed itself while recovering from sleepmode, I had to reinstall everything and hoped the issue would be gone. It persisted though and after further research, I've found the tip to use a HDMI cable instead of DP. Voilą - resolved!

This is apparently exactly the the same problem as the old WinXP issue relating to "normal fonts (96DPI)" vs. "large fonts (120DPI)", except that Microsoft now refers to it as "medium 125%" in the Personalize -> Display font size customization dialog. The problem is that if the application has...
