Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 blue screen error

Hi,

I am writing for a friend. He's running Windows 7 64 bit and his graphic card seems to cause problems. It's called NVidia GeForce GTX 580. When he turns on the computer, there are lines across the screen and he gets the blue screen of death now and then. If he deletes the driver and boots up in safe mode, the computer runs fine but he's unable to play games. I've suggested he run an sfc scan but the computer won't do it. Won't scan for errors, won't automatically fix a.s.o. He's tried downgrading the driver which didn't help. Also, if he deletes the driver and then boots up normally, Windows just reinstalls the driver automatically and he has the same issues. So lines across the screen, blue screen of death, automatic reinstallation of the driver.. except for safe mode where it's alright but can't play games. Anybody know what might be the issue and how we can fix it? Thanks so much!

Has the computer been tested on another system? try and see if it works on another system.

When he boots into Safe Mode, tell him to delete the nVidia folder from C:\nVidia\, that's where the auto-install files are, (if I remember correctly....although I may not, long and boring story), anyway, in case I'm NOT right, if you, or he, could Google "DDU - Display Driver Uninstaller", I believe that will suffice in completely uninstalling the graphics card drivers, or Google Uninstall Drivers and see what gives you that tingle in your loins to say you're happy with what you've found. Once you've removed the drivers and deleted the auto-install files, reboot and it should boot up using the generic drivers allowing you to install whichever version you'd like to try

But, yeah, if you could try the card in another system to see if you can replicate the problem, that would help to narrow down the error. I, myself, had a 580 GTX until quite recently and I also had problems with the device driver crashing constantly and crashing then not even having the common courtesy to restart, meaning I had to use the Reset or Power button to turn the machine off

My guess is the GPU has gone south. My GTX 460 died the second time again, Windows 10 and Windows 7 ended up getting BSOD when booting to windows with the GPU so I reflowed the chip and everything is working fine again.
