Dual Monitor Setup - One monitor blanks during video playback

    Windows 7 Ultimate x64 system with 2 monitors - 1 DVI, 1 VGA
    Intel HD 3000 Video

    Hi -
I'm struggling to find the cause of a condition where, when I am playing a Youtube video, the monitor connected to the DVI input will blank after a short period (maybe 5 seconds into the video, maybe a minute).

Here is a list of what I've done (none of these resolved my issue):

    1. Switch between using Firefox and Iexplorer
    2. Disabled (MsConfig) all startup items and non microsoft services
    3. Tried to update video driver - No new driver available ( Driver is Intel driver)
    4. Uninstalled video driver and reinstalled.
    5. Performed a memory test and no problems found
    6. Ran a graphics stress test application - no blanking issues found.
    7. Checked the Power Saving - Monitor set to never turn off

I need to get a second monitor with DVI and determine whether the monitor is the issue, I suppose.
The monitor, however, works like a champ otherwise. Could the monitor be the reason?
    I would appreciate any suggestions.
    Thanks
    Jim

I've only just today started fooling around with 2 monitors so consider this as tentative newbie ramblings & not necessarily strong expert advice. In my fooling around, I have discovered that if you are trying to play a video & you have the monitors set to "Duplicate these displays," the playback on the second monitor shows certain effects. In my case, my primary monitor is exactly that, a computer monitor. But my second monitor is my HD TV. Of course, I want to play videos on my HD TV because it's bigger than my computer monitor. When I changed the setting to say "Extend these displays," and I dragged the window for my playback app over from my computer monitor to my TV, the weird effects stopped & playback was perfect. I'm being vague about these effects because I don't know how to describe them. It looks a bit like the picture was sliced horizontally & pasted back together imperfectly. And the slice rolls up or down the image for a while. Then the problem goes away for a while, but it comes back. But if you go to extend mode, it fixes the problem. I hope this triggers some ideas that progress you a step closer to a solution. Here's a screen shot of the dialog for changing the settings I'm talking about:
