    Can Two Computers go into One in a Dual Display Configuration


    I have a Toshiba Satellite laptop which has a VGA output.
    I have a desktop which has a VGA and DVI output on the motherboard, and DP, HDMI, and DVI outlets on a PCIe Radeon 550 Pulse graphics card.


    I have two monitors -- an AOC2343 (1920 x 1080) with VGA and DVI outlets, and an Ilyama X2788QS (2560 x 1440) with DP, HDMI, and DVI outlets.


    I wish to run the desktop in a dual monitor configuration, with the Ilyama connected via HDMI to the graphics card, and the AOC connected to the DVI socket on the same card, unless someone advises me otherwise.

    My question is, how can I connect the laptop to the AOC monitor when it (monitor) is already connected to the desktop??

    Hello Ian and Welcome ...

    It should be a simple matter to connect the two monitors to the Two devices, although the set-up may not be fully automatic in use

    I would connect the Laptop to the AOC2343 using a VGA cable and the desktop to the AOC2343 via DVI and to the X2788QS via DP, (or HDMI)

    When using the Desktop you would need to set the input Port on the AOC2343 to DVI and when using the laptop set it to VGA, This is normally set by either a switch on the monitor or a remote ( where one is supplied)

    Both the laptop and the Desktop should be set-up to Extended screen mode and even if used at the same time it should not cause any issue and would just display what ever input was selected on the AOC2343

    Sounds more complicated than it is in practice - These days devices are designed for multiple input devices
