Dell Laptop with 2 Graphics Cards; Discrete Card isn't Working
Bought a refurbished Dell Latitude E6440 with 1080p display. It has Intel HD 4600 dedicated and AMD Radeon HD 8690M discrete graphics. According to Device Manager, both devices are working properly.
Because the pre-installed Radeon drivers didn't include the Catalyst Control Center, I installed the AMD driver update package from the Dell website. I then installed the Unigine Valley Benchmark program to test the graphics. Before starting the Valley program, I assigned it to a High Performance setting in the Catalyst Control Center.
When Unigine Valley runs on its the Extreme HD preset, I see Intel HD Graphics 4600 displayed in the upper right corner of the screen. The video quality isn't anything to write home about. Unless I'm missing something, I should be seeing AMD HD Graphics 8690M in the upper right corner.
I contacted Dell support about this. The tech support rep doesn't think its a driver issue and suspects a problem with the AMD card. He asked if I wanted to return the system for a refund.
I'm looking for a second opinion. Is there a more definitive way to test the Radeon card? Why does Device Manager indicate that the AMD device is working properly?
