New build power issues with graphics card

Hello Sevenforums,

Today I've been looking into an issue for a friend and he is having a bit of a power issue apparently, and from what I could tell it has something to do with the graphics card.

Basically the system will boot fine when I leave the GTX760 power cables to the PSU unplugged, the fans will spin and things like that and the system will perform a proper POST.

However when I plugin the power cable from the PSU to the graphics card then the system won't boot at all. The PSU then seems to block this from happening.

Any idea what I could check? I've doublechecked the seatings and the PSU is also brand new as I advised him to upgrade it as the GTX760 needs 500W minimum, which he now has.

Help would be appreciated.

Hi markvis14,

Here are just a few suggestion that might help.

Does it have a slide switch for voltage by any chance?

Is it a desktop or laptop?
If it is a desktop you could remove the casing and check that the strip of connections where the power switch and reset are connected to the motherboard are OK.

When you turn on the computer with the power supply connected do get any beeps?
If it beeps, count the number of beeps because different sequences indicate different problems.

Does the power light on the motherboard stay on?

Here is a link that might help also: Power supply - My computer Doesn't Start

I hope this help!
