Monitors not working (VGA & HDMI)

My monitor (VGA connection) started going to sleep a couple of days ago and when I turned in my PC today it says no signal. I have also tried plugging a HD TV into it via the HDMI port on my PC but I also get no signal.

I have tried re-seating the graphics card and tried a different port too. Also, I tried taking the power plug out of the back of the PC and keeping my finger on the power button for a minute then restarting but to no avail. The PC boots up but I can't see anything.

When I unplug the monitored (VGA connection) it says no cable on the screen then when I try and plug it back in it says no signal and goes to sleep.

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Actually, you can be confident that the monitors and cables appear to be working perfectly .

Question : are you hearing any audio beeps when booting PC?

Nope. It all sounds like my PC is booting up as normal.

Aha,

You could force the computer to beep.

Do this by (temporarily) removing the graphics card , and then starting up PC.

This will help determine if the motherboard is functioning correctly.

I took the graphics card out and I hear no beeps at all.

You could try reset BIOS and replace the CMOS battery.

If the BIOS has become corrupt then resetting BIOS and replacing CMOS battery will fix the issue.

To try this, you would need locate the CMOS battery and CMOS jumpers yourself as the location of the CMOS battery and the CMOS jumpers is different on each motherboard.

Try using the hdmi monitor with the graphics card uninstalled. The motherboard may by looking at the graphics card as the primary device OR your system disables the motherboard video ports when a graphics card is installed. If you can get the hdmi monitor working this way, the next step is to figure out if the issue is with your vga monitor or the graphics card. Vga connections sometimes go bad because the signal is no longer strong enough. Can you try using a dvi cable with your vga monitor. Many monitors have a connection for both vga and dvi.

I tried that and still get nothing when I boot up. No signal.

I brought it into a local computer repair shop and the technician told me he thinks it's my motherboard that has packed in. I've had the PC for around 6 years so maybe it's time to update and get a new one anyway.

Did you try replacing the CMOS battery as suggested by iko22? When you do this, disconnect all wires and devices from the computer, including AC power; then remove the CMOS battery. Wait 10 minutes before reconnecting anything. Doing this will cause all circuits to totally reset, which may fix the problem.
