gtx660 error 43 -nvideo console wont start, have image on screen

A little backstory.....I had been running the on board video card fine, I'm not into gaming, so my demands are minimal, but I was given a free LG 29um57 - ultra widescreen. I have frequently run multiple monitors, so I thought I try to get it all out of this monitor. So I found a used gtx670 (seems like a good, albeit older card)

When I run a driver install (tried many version), the install runs (seemingly to completion) ask to restart to complete installation and then start back up with geforce experience saying there is no driver and error 43 from device manager. Also, nvidia console crashes when I try to open it from control panel.

I have been reading about this for about 18 hours now and have tried various combinations of installs, removal methods, ect. i have even wiped the system and started with the gpu drives before anything else, same results.

The odd part is, I and running on that screen with that card right now....with the generic drivers @ 1080p...the resolution is there, but any motion is terrible & doesn't fill out the screen...but it is functioning on some level, can I take this to mean the used card I bought is physically ok?

Some users reported problems with power connections, I should mention I did have to swap out the PS for a bigger one with the (2) 6pin connectors. So its kinda untested. It seems to run fine and each of the yellow lines reads 12V as it should, but I have no way to know if its getting all the current it needs.

Someone suggested a bad pci controller in the cpu, how might I go about testing this? I have a very basic video card I could try in there, if it works, can I cross bad cpu off my troubleshooting list?

So I now have about 18 hours into what should have been a 1-2 hour video card install, I am desperate and willing to try just about anything. thanks for your help.

took a while for my post to show up on here. My main focus is now on "error43 : windows has stopped the device because it reported errors"

I need to know how to find out what those errors are, hoping that will tell me if the hardware is shot, or if I have some sort of system conflict

moderator: you may delete this thread if you wish. This waited 24hours for my messages to post is ridiculous. I understood with the creation of the new thread and me being a new user, but just a simple reply has to be approved? That's just silly.

Do you have the monitor connected to the graphics card? Is the cable connected to the correct connection (VGA vs HDMI) on the card and the monitor? Is the monitor set to use say DVI vice VGA?

The last good driver for gtx 660 (at least for me) is 350.12-desktop-win8-win7-winvista-64bit-international-whql. With it the card runs stable.
