Windows 7: desktop resolution

desktop resolution

I've come across some disturbing behavior recently as I began using my computer differently than before.

I have 2 separate admin accounts, one for emergencies, the other for my daily use.

As my sight has taken the plunge this past year in terms of luminosity/contrast (glaucoma) backed by a little loss of resolution, I'm sixty, I thought that I could still use my usual account to do the basic and when needed, switch to the other account with a lower resolution (I have a 31" monitor in 2560x1600).

I tried at first win+L from 1 to 2 : that was a big mess, whatever resolution set in one was replicated in the second and vice versa.

So I closed my usual session, opened the other one, set it up, used it (I'm a writer) then put it to stand by. Upon resuming it the resolution was back to 2560x1600... I put it back to 1920x1200, closed everything, closed the session and opened my usual one. Baaamm, the desktop was 1920x1200 !

I know windows has always had issues with the desktop/resolution but wait.. 40 years later this !%$@# kind of behavior still plagues it ? Unbelievable !

One of the other guys may get into the technical end of things but, have you ever considered using the Windows Magnifier?

Windows has never supported user specific screen resolution settings. This blog by Raymond Chen, a developer with Microsoft for more than 25 years, explains some of the reasons why. I know the article is 10 years old.

Why isn't the screen resolution a per-user setting? | The Old New Thing

He explain it better than I can. User screen resolution can be done with a login script but I have no experience with such.

well this article is for a terminal server point of view when my issue is on a local desktop.. and if I understand the headache for a session switching by Win+L I really don't see the point for 2 separate accounts... This is SOOOOoooo lame for a 40 years old OS when it is basic on every linux, OSx, or the really old BEos that rarely asked you to rebbot to instead restart the desired service.

I found this freeware to do the job :

How do I set higher than native resolution on desktop?
Hello, I want more work space than my Lenovo ThinkPad E530 currently supplies me with its 1366x768 resolution. I'm pretty sure there's a way to set it to a higher resolution, say 1920x1080, or something similar with a better aspect ratio, beyond the options Windows gives me. I'm not...

Oversizing the desktop over than the monitor resolution...
Hi, Do you remember Windows 95? You could set your desktop resolution bigger than the resolution of your monitor (it could have a 1024x768 desktop with a VGA monitor - 640x480). Now we all have monitors with a resolution of almost 1280x1024 (mine is 1680 x 1050). We have twice as much space in...

I have black bars around WMC, whereas on my desktop using the ati4200 integrated graphics and catalyst control center I have stretched the desktop to fit the screen. My questions here are why doesn't WMC recognize the desktop resolution? How can I make it stretch to fit the screen? This is my...
