S-Video is not a better connection then component. Component cables were the standard for full hi-def prior to the proliferation of HDMI. Do people maybe think you're talking about composite(RCA) cables? S-video can only handle up to about 720.

Definitely seems like a problem with the driver. Can you try running a driver cleaner then reinstalling the driver. If no success, try installing it in compatibility mode.

This is an explanation of how s-video can only handle standard definition, whereas component can handle everything up through full hi-def. This isn't really a debatable issue. You might prefer s-video... for some reason... if you prefer standard def, but there is no denying component cable generates a better picture.

Did I forget anything? If I can fix this I'll be so happy with W7 I could give B. Gates a big bear hug.

I've had good luck with it in the past.

It may be worth while to see if the problem is resolved with a "clean boot". Instructions on this can be found here: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

I know it's not really the same issue, but seems like a potential fix.

Not sure this will work but I will try anyway. I formatted Windows like twice and installed different drivers, main problem might be that upon first loading of Windows it automatically recognizes and installs its own default drivers for HD4850, maybe not exactly fitting my own specific gfx card. thoughts?
