S-Video is not a better connection then component. Component cables were the standard for full hi-def prior to the proliferation of HDMI. Do people maybe think you're talking about composite(RCA) cables? S-video can only handle up to about 720.

Definitely seems like a problem with the driver. Can you try running a driver cleaner then reinstalling the driver. If no success, try installing it in compatibility mode.

Yes, S-Video is higher quality than component.

S-video vs. Component Video -- Which is Better?

This is an explanation of how s-video can only handle standard definition, whereas component can handle everything up through full hi-def. This isn't really a debatable issue. You might prefer s-video... for some reason... if you prefer standard def, but there is no denying component cable generates a better picture.

    Ah - my bad.

Yes, you're correct. I had a brain slippage and thought you guys were discussing composite.

(And I was saying to myself, are they kidding? I even substituted component for composite in my head.) lol

@torrentg: We all have those days!!!

@runkz: If running a driver cleaning and reinstalling doesn't work, could you provide some more detailed info on your rig?

It's ok but finally someone read the actual content of my messages LOL. praise the lord for you bmj2728. Any recommended drivercleaners? I dunno any good ones, I used drivercleaner PE on my old computer but it seemed a little crappy. My current system is this: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit running on: Gigabyte motherboard: GIGABYTE - Product - Motherboard - Overview - GA-P35C-DS3R (rev. 1.x) Graphics card: SAPPHIRE- HOME Connected via component to Samsung CRT sp43t7hlx/shi, a 43" CRT TV CPU type: Intel® Core?2 Duo Processor E8400 (6M Cache, 3.00 GHz, 1333 MHz FSB) with SPEC Code(s) SLAPL, SLB9J 2TB comprised of 3 Western Digital HDDs, 1TB and 2 500GBs. 4GB ram Kingston Technology Company - Kingston Memory Search - Search Results for: KVR1333D3N9/2G And Catalyst Control Center 9.11 with latest ATI drivers downloaded from official site. Did I forget anything? If I can fix this I'll be so happy with W7 I could give B. Gates a big bear hug.

    I'd recommend Guru3D's Driver Sweeper

    Guru3D - Driver Sweeper

I've had good luck with it in the past.

It may be worth while to see if the problem is resolved with a "clean boot". Instructions on this can be found here: How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

    This might help as well:

AMD Game Forums - My Solution for Catalyst 9.11 Failed Install

I know it's not really the same issue, but seems like a potential fix.

Not sure this will work but I will try anyway. I formatted Windows like twice and installed different drivers, main problem might be that upon first loading of Windows it automatically recognizes and installs its own default drivers for HD4850, maybe not exactly fitting my own specific gfx card. thoughts?
