Hi and welcome

Did you update the video driver and monitor driver?

type device manager in search>go to the diplay tab. Is you rdriver listed?
Is there a yellow triangle on it?

What is the native resoltion of the monitor?
What is the video driver max resolution?

resolution won't fill screen - Google Search

See what I did? I used google to search for a topic that's been posted before. Here I'll do it again.

black area around screen - Google Search

If you read somewhere in their, they suggest refresh rates. Since you haven't given any more details other than that I suggest you try setting a different refresh rate and play with that.

If you're using an ATI card..............

I had a similar problem with my HD 4850 when switching from vista to win7. I actually found a fix inside the ATI Catalyst Control Center.

Open CCC and somewhere in the display configuration for your monitor ensure that there is no over/underscan. For some reason my CCC had a small degree of underscan turned on which led to the black bars you mentioned.

A word of caution, when you start your games up and pick the native resolution the underscan may show up again. Just turn on any options for windowed mode and/or full screen and then turn off windowed mode again and the black bars should go away. Hope that helps!

After the Starting Windows screen a blank black screen with a cursor that I can move pops up that lasts a minute (shouldn't happen with SSD, used to be ~10 second boot). Windows screen flashes, random grey screen & random black screen
This is driving me crazy. Right after I boot my laptop, the screen flashes randomly. Also something is stealing focus from what I am working on to something else. Then it likes to suddenly go to a grey screen. I have to manually reboot. If that is not enough, it like to just reboot.
