Solved Getting W7 to use Nvidia GTX 1070 on MSI GE72MVR Apache Pro laptop

Hello,

I moved my Windows 7 SSD from a MSI GE62 2QF Apache Pro (which was "dying") to a MSI GE72MVR 7RG Apache Pro. I eventually got Win 7 to boot, and was finally able to access the web when I got a usb controller driver installed that the system recognized.

My current problem is that Win 7 is ignoring the Nvidia GTX 1070 graphics card, only using the basic graphics card. I've tried installing older Nvidia drivers and intel drivers but to no avail. In Device Manager I can see the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 drivers are installed. I've uninstalled and reinstalled these. When I try and install the intel and Nvidia drivers provided by the MSI site, the system doesn't recognize them. Any ideas on what I should try next.

Cheers.

I thought you were already running Windows 7? If I were you I would stick with Windows 10.

I only switched one laptop from Windows 10 back to Windows 7. That was because it was so old (June 2006) that it was really slow with Windows 10. Other than that it functioned OK with Windows 10.

Yes, I'm starting to get used to Windows 10 but I really want to resurrect Windows 7, just for a little while longer.

I ran the update driver and the files were saved to the computer. The graphics driver install starts up, checks system and then states "Nvidia Installer cannot continue. You must install an intel driver first".

I did a search for intel graphics drivers for windows 7 and download and run "Intel Graphics Driver for Windows 7*/8.1* [15.36]" on my system and I get a message stating "This computer does not meet the minium requirements for installing the software"

So I'm now specifically looking for a graphics driver for the i7-7700 hq, or should I be looking for a chipset driver?

Cheers.

Update: I found a link on this site on how to edit an intel graphics driver inf file so it updates on Windows 7. This worked.
