Should the DWM be set to manual rather than auto? I'll check that when I get home

Been playing about a bit tonight, I've managed to get an older driver working (it don't look quite as good but very close) and that works even after reboot

but now the catalyst won't work with the older drivers, so I have to put up with a really noisy g/c fan..

If I revert to the latest driver in my list the the catalyst returns but I lose aero....

    My head hurts...

If you're using the starter version of Windows, Aero can not work with that. It's disabled intentionally.

Hi. Install the driver from NVIDIA's site and it should be fine.

Yeah, I'm sure. As long as you installed x86 version of Windows.
