Should i try installing the vista 9.2 drivers instead of the one that comes from win update (well its already included with 7048) with my radeon 9600 ?

I am worried it will mess up the install...

And if yes should i try uninstalling the windows driver first?

Is there an issue with the 7048 drivers that you wish to solve with the 9.2 drivers? Unless you're dissatisfied with some aspect of your current video performance, my advice would be: DON'T MESS WITH IT.

Just the fact i imagine if the 9.2 drivers work they will perform better than anything from win update.. maybe im wrong.

I get better gaming performance in xp/vista using the latest drivers than i do in 7 using the windows one.

Then you can either go for it, or wait for 9.3 or 9.4 (which I understand are supposed to be Win 7 friendly).

In any case, I'd make a backup of the Win 7 drive, just in case you need to restore to your current drivers and settings.

I think i will wait until 9.3 but the article saying about them not supporting older cards (like mine) is confusing, it says support will stop "after" 9.3 so im hoping 9.3 will be 7 compatible and support my card.

I will then be a happy bunny.

After 9.3, the certain cards mentioned will have legacy status. But they will still get quarterly updates instead of monthly and any hotfixes necessary. They're not going to completely stop support for them.

Turns out that the driver coming with the 7000 build is the best so far for my X1300 mobility. Tried installing 9.2, 9.1, 8.6 and 8.13 (obtained from Acer) and 7.14, they all refuse to install completely and either leave me with a slower system or have an install manager that hangs before installing anything.

I guess that for anyone reading this, test your system before trying to install a different driver, mine is working perfect with the standard driver :)
