WTF!! Cheap GFX Card Beats my new 1!!!

If anyone can solve this mystery I will be well impressed.

2 weeks ago my very old radeon card finally gave up on me (after gradually getting worse over the period of 2yrs or so), because I did'nt have much cash I bought the cheapest card in my local store as a temp solution, its this 1 PEAK 128MB GeF FX5200 TV/CRT AGP RET [100711VDPK] from Unreal Computers
for the price ($36 to our friends in the USA), it was pretty good, I could'nt get W7 drivers so I just used vista drivers, gave me a WEI score of 2.0 Graphics, and 3.0 Gaming Graphics, so aero was enabled and I was happy.

    I just got a new card, this 1 PNY 6200 512MB AGP 8X 64-bit VGA DVI-I TV-Out- microdirect.co.uk
it has a better spec and cost £13 ($57) more so I assumed the score would increase a little bit but its gone DOWN!!!! its better for Graphics 2.5 but Gaming Graphics is only 2.0, I just dont understand!

I got the latest drivers for W7 from nvidia aswell.

    Any ideas much appreciated.

P.S. My MB is pretty old now but I did'nt think that would make too much difference!

WEI scores do not really 'matter'. It usually doesn't reflect the true performance of your PC. (my opinion at least)

I say ignore the scores and test it on a game or something. :)

    A small update,
I re-run the test and the gaming score has been bumped upto 3.1, which is more like it I guess, but still only a small improvement on the other cards score, considering the new 1 has faster clock speed and 4x more ddr ram on board.

    Never mind!

Ya. 6200 cards aren't the greatest. They're just good enough to get by with Aero. The 64-bit memory interface really hurts too.

That being said, I have a 6200A-LE in my other system and it plays old games alright (so-so). It does play DVDs well but definitely can not do high def.

Just make sure you install the latest driver from NVIDIA's site.

    Gaming..

Installed and tested Quake 4, it run "OK" I guess, rez 1024x768 at a bit of a reduced frame rate (slightly dated mobo and AMD 1.92gHz cpu didnt help much), graphics looks a bit weak, too used to seeing PS3 graphics now.

    lol

Ok, the windows experiece index is bulls**t. So stop whining about it, and focus on the real thing here. the specs of the card.

I prefer the Xbox 360 over PC gaming myself. You may want to think of upgrading your PC soon.

    Now now play nicely. :)

It isn't how new, fast or powerful the hardware is, it is more how the hardware plays together. I had an old Geforce 6200 that out performed anything newer that I put in the machine simply because the machine was old and that was what fit best with the hardware. New and shiny isn't always best.

Also, there may be remnants of your old drivers on the system causing issues. I recommend using Driver Cleaner Pro (Yes it is an old version but works). Install it, restart in safe mode, run it as administrator, clean the old drivers and your current drivers, reboot, install the latest version of your new drivers.

If anyone has a better driver cleaner that is more recent, please post?
