i hear tell ''unofficially'' (due to the NDA), that GF100 will surface @ $400 (£250), so GF104, hopefully will come in @ about $560 (£350)

    now that's CHEAP!!!!!

it'll be the first time in history Nvidia undercut the competition with a faster product..
eh i'm still doubting it....... actually i'm almost positive its impossible
only time will tell my friend.

but if nvidia's gpu's arnt worth it i might just bite the 303 bullet and get 2 5870's, im pretty sure the bus config on that asus mobo will be better with 2 cards than 1.

might be but i'm still doubting it especially since they have been delayed so much.... and even then.... the 5990 is supposed to be out by the end of this year or sooner

I just installed a 5850 last night and it just kills the 8600gts I had before. No issues yet in several games.

newegg.com has an Asus 5850 for $299, I got and XFX black box edition (OC'ed) on sale for $329 but the price went back up $30 now.

DLed the new 9.12 drivers and installed them right away (I heard the ones on the disc were a little buggy (8.5 or something)

lol i dont think you should be comparing those 2 cards, the 5850 would kill that GTS anyday.

have you checked the driver d/l's cos i think version 10 cat is available now.

Yeah, I wasn't really comparing them, I know they are in two completely different catagories.

The 5850's do have a high pitched 'whine' though unfortunately. Might not bother you but it makes me feel like someones driving a drill in my left ear
I hope I get used to it. I've read about loud noise on several of them (asus was one), just the fan design I guess. I could handle a loud noise, knock, clatter, etc.. But high pitched sounds can be iritating.
It's not even that loud, just high pitched.

hmm is the fan set to auto or can you manually adjust the fan speed till it rids of the sound? or worst case is find another fan. maybe even try contacting support to see if something can be done about it?

edit: or you could hard wire the fan to a fan controller and adjust it manually.

Well, the fan can be controlled through the Catalsyt app. But when the card isn't being used it's at 20% and silent. It's during game when it starts to crank up that you get the whine. I think all you can really do to control it is to turn it up more. It's built into the shell of the card (big plastic tunnel).
