    Fullscreen games not initializing.

I have recently upgraded from Vista 64-bit to 7 64-bit. Before the upgrade I had installed and played many games (Battlefield 2 & 2142, FATE, Assassin's Creed, etc.) in full-screen mode with no problems.

Something seems to have happened after the upgrade however as now I am not able to launch some games and have had many difficulties with the others. I have updated the driver specific to my graphics card as well as the Catalyst ones and have checked all the other drivers for updates only to be told they were the most current.

On a related note, my Assassin's Creed is a digital download from EB Games. When I try launching it through DirectX 9 it asks me to insert the CD, and if I try to launch it by any other of the options, the CPU runs for about 5 seconds and then nothing happens.

I say nothing happens, but that's not true. A Windows Error Report is created roughly named AppCrash Assassin's Creed for each time I try to launch it.

As for the other games, FATE creates a process that runs in Task Manager, but nothing shows up on the screen, and occasionally Battlefield 2 does the same.

Is there something that I am missing? I am close to going back and doing a clean install of Windows 7 (instead of having the upgraded version) but would REALLY rather not have to re-install all the programs.

If someone could help me I would be greatly appreciative.

    Hi.

Uninstall antivirus to test. Disabling will have no effect.

If you downloaded or "found" your copy of Windows not from Microsoft themselves, this is very likely your issue as it is laced with malware.

Update your chipset drivers and bios to see if that help, if uninstalling antivirus doesn't. You do this by visiting your motherboard's website or chipset maker's website. Not the device manager.

My upgrade was from Windows through HP. Everything is legit, including Assassin's Creed and McAfee.

I have uninstalled McAfee and restarted Windows. When everything restarted I attempted to relaunch Assassin's Creed and got the AppCrash_AssassinsCreed_D..... WER again. It generates it in the ReportQueue folder and contains a .wer as well as a Text, HTML and 2 HDMP files.

Also, and a potentially related note, anytime I try to restart, I get several programs that take forever to close (explorer.exe (playing logoff sound...) is the main one). Of course I can force a restart, but is this an issue?

After doing all this, I think I solved my own problem. I am an idiot for not trying it. I checked the box for "Run as administer" and it launched beautifully.

    I thoroughly appreciate the response.

Thanks. Again, I appreciate your and everyone else's help. I am thrilled to be able to play now. I think I might hang around these forums for a while.
