    Acer al1716w montior resolution problem

    Hi,

I am using WINDOWS 7 n sometimes its able to recognise my monitor make n model and apply the desired resolution of 1440 x 900 and sometimes after restart it does not.
The problem I am fgacing now is that since the past 24 hours its showing my monitor as a GENERIC NON-PNP MONITOR and working on a resolution of 1024 x 768, I want it to work on 1440 x 900 so that the aspect ratios can be proper for me to work and permanently recognise my ACER monitor.

On the low res side everything is stretched and its ruining my work and time.

    Please help fast.

    Thanks

    Monti

Sounds like for whatever reason Windows is losing or not reading the monitor driver (no idea why, but it happens). First thing is have a look in,

    C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository

and see if there is a folder called,

    al1716w.inf_amd64_neutral_d189eb98ad4885a6

the bolded bit is what you are looking for, the last bit will be different on each computer. If it is there you can use the INF inside to install/re-install the monitor driver by right clicking and selecting Install. You can also install it through Device Manager by locating the monitor, right clicking on Update driver and navigating to that folder.

If that folder isn't there you can get the driver for the monitor from here,

    Microsoft Update Catalog

    Hi Stormy,

I did as you suggested but there was no al1716w.inf_amd64_neutral folder in there.

Looked for the monitoor driver on the Winows Update catalog but to no avail, I then googled for the monitor driver and found 1 for it titled AL1716Wt Vista WHQL Driver. Now I tried to upload this driver through the device manager but windows says the best driver is already installed for my monitor and windows is recognising my monitor as a Generic Non- PnP Monitor.

Is there a way I can install the driver in this C:\Windows\System32\DriverStore\FileRepository n force windows to recognise my monitor model n make.

    Kindly advice.

    Thanks,

    Monti

Where to find that update, just a few minuted back windows updated and something was installed in my system, since then even the explorer is hanging and all the programs are taking eternity to open.

    Desperately seeking solutions.

Thanks for your time Tews but the driver that you searched is available with me and even that wasn't of any help.Even after uploading the driver, windows says that it already has this driver and its the best available.

Is there any way that I can force Windows to install the Acer AL1716W .inf file in the registry?

What I beleive would sort the problem is for Windows to recognise my Acer monitor model, when it did earlier before the format Windows did recognise the model n make n applied the desired (1440 x 900) resolution.

    Awaiting further help/suggestions.

    Monti.

The only way I know to force a driver is to download the driver to your desktoo unpack if needed. Then go to device manager>right click on display>update driver softwre>browse my computer>let me pick>have disk> browse>Navigate to C:\Windows"where you downloaded it>click or( double click) the ,inf file>click on ok>next> then let it install. Hope this will work for you. Fabe
