I use the XFX Ati Radeon 4650 1GB,plays call of duty modern warfare at 1028-728 perfectly

The 4650 is a step up over the 4550,and also the 4550 you listed only has 512mb memory, while the 4650 has 1GB

On a side note,i payed less than $120 for it too, have you tried newegg.com for USA or Overclockers UK if your in Europe

As for it working,i cant see a problem, the nvidia chipset should be just moved over, perhaps someone can clarify?

They both draw thier power from the PCi-E slot, so you should be fine even with a weaker PSU.

    Another alternative:
    Newegg.com - SAPPHIRE 100295HDMI Radeon HD 4670 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFireX Support Video Card - Desktop Graphics / Video Cards

Gaming wise they will do very decent, but struggle at high resolutions (such as 1920x1080)

youll just need to disable the nvidia onboard graphics when you install the new card via the bios.

As far as VRAM, i dont think anything over 512MB will be of any benefit at the resolutions these cards are designed to game at.
By the time you get to 1080 res, 1GB VRAM helps, but these cards will struggle at that res, regardless if the amount of VRAM they have.
So I dont see the point personally.

Unless Im missing something, please correct my understanding of it :)

    Welcome!

Don't understand the urgency, but both those cards should work with your machine.

for a bit extra i can highly recommend the HD5770 for many reasons
    • low power consumption
      stable and fast
runs cool 34 deg C average
will be future proof for another year or two
plays most current games on high settings easily

your only restriction may be the "half height slot" for any PCIE card you choose ?

get the HD 4550 with DDR3 as the best choice

Both are poor for gaming unless you play games below 1440x900 - go for the GDDR3 option with higher bandwith.

The fact that the 4550 has GDDR3 on it means nothing as it is hampered severally by the 64 bit bus the memory has to run on. In comparison the 4650 has a 128 bit bus. To give you an idea,

Don't know what the prices are like in Morocco, but unless this is for a HTPC (home theater PC) I wouldn't look at anything less than a HD 4670.
