    Nvidia 9800 GT freezes

    Hello everyone. New poster here.

I've seen other threads about the problems people are having with the Nvidia 9800 GT card. Well, you can add me to that list. At least I can remove it and still having a working computer.

Running off of onboard graphics works perfectly fine for me, but when I install my 9800, the display freezes on the "Loading Windows" screen. However, the boot up chime plays, I can enter my password and the log in chime plays as well. But the display is still frozen on the "Loading Windows" screen.

I'm using the latest (or at least what I think are the latest) Nvidia Driver 195.62.

The rest of my specs are:

    Windows 7 Professional (64-bit version)
    ECS G31T-M5 ATX
    Intel Core2 Quad Q8300
    4GB RAM
Nvidia 9800 GT (not installed right now)

Thanks in advance for any help!

Alright, I was finally able to boot up my computer and NOT have the card freeze up on me. Only took 6 tries. So I'll install the beta drivers now. Any other ideas if this doesn't work?

Install the chipset drivers too using the guide in my sig. Then run Memtest86+ and chkdsk to eliminate the possibility of faulty RAM or the hard drive.

I too am using a 9800gt (BFG, 1gb DDR3 @ 256 bit... just upgraded from the 512mb 9800gt so, in other words, ran them both on this PC with 7 & never had a problem). I would encourage you to NOT use the software that came with the card & go on Nvidia.com & download the driver from there. Select 9 Series/ (when selecting operating system you'd want to select Vista 32 or 64 bit)... Don't select windows 7 O.S./ When you begin downloading the drive your screen will turn black for a couple seconds & then come back on. At this poing you will notice upper top left corner will no longer read Windows Vista but will now read Windows 7. It will recognize that it is 7 that you are installing this on & correct itself. The reason you don't select Windows 7 O.S. is because it's never there. Always reads "Temporarily Unavailable." This worked fine for me & I'm sure it will work for you. Good Luck & let me know how it goes.

For everyone having a "freezing" problem, here is the solution:
    http://www.nvidia.com/object/win7_ [...] 97.13.html

Brand new drivers from Nvidia - there was a "fan problem" causing mother boards burn, and everything freeze.
    Hope this helps!

I hate to resurrect this thread, but my video card started acting up again. It had been working fine for a good 3 months, but now it seems to be doing the same stuff as before. Only now it's impossible to get past the "Loading Windows" screen.

I'm so annoyed and frustrated because the card works perfectly fine in my old computer running Windows XP. And the new computer runs fine running off the integrated graphics without the video card. I'm ready to throw Windows 7 out the window.

    Help, please.
