    Having trouble forcing resolution

    Hello guys and gals,

I have an HP DV5000 laptop sporting an ATI Radeon Xpress 200M card (using the VGA out port and the latest driver) and an AMD Turion 64 processor. My problem is: before upgrading to Windows 7 from XP, I could force a screen resolution on my Insignia 26" HDTV using ATI's Catalyst Control Center. However, when I attempt to utilize ATI's Catalyst Control Center program for Windows 7, it fails to install correctly. I have tried using a program called Powerstrip to try and force the screen resolution on the monitor, but I cannot properly force it to display anything but 1024x768 or 800x600 (which were already options) with the right and left sides of the screen blacked-out. Previously on Windows XP, I was able to force the display to 1280x768 and utilize the whole display, but I am unable to do so now. I appreciate any help in advance.

    Welcome!

I'm not good with graphics issues, but try this link: Force DVI/HDMI resolutions and refresh rates

    Hope this helps,
