    HDMI Display Problems, need help!

So I have my new computer hooked up to my 22'' Vizio HDTV, and every 5-10 minutes the screen starts flashing horizontal stripes of different colors, or sometimes it's kind of like a melting rainbow effect starting from the top of the screen. When I turn off the TV (which takes longer than usual) and turn it back on everything is fine for a few minutes then it starts again. I have no idea what's wrong with it, it was working fine on VGA, but VGA quality sucks. I have an nvidia geforce gt 220. I have no idea how to fix this problem. Should I switch to DVI, and would it have the same quality and fill up the whole screen like HDMI? Thanks for the help in advance.

    Welcome!

Try updating your display drivers. Go to the manufacturer's site and download the latest ones for your video card and monitor.

Other causes can be the HDMI cable(too long, low quality, or defective), the video card(overheating, or defective HDMI circuitry), or the TV(defective HDMI circuitry).
