ATI Radeon 2600 XT: Out of luck?

Getting ready to install W7 64 bit on a more than capable Inel i7 machine. It has a fairly respectable ATI Radeon 2600 XT in it with latest driver. Windows 7 Upgrade advisor says incompatable driver and Aero wont work. Aero and dualk screen is a must for this system. Anyone running a 2600 with usccess? Just wondering if its an overly cautious warning from the upgrade advisor or I am really out of luck,

    Thanks!

Did it say the 2600XT is incompatible or just ATI catalyst control centre and driver?

Thnask for the reply. It says "Your current graphics adapter wont support the Windows Aero user interface". If it cant handle Aero I would suspect dual monitor also sketchy. But I remain skeptical.

    No problem.
Odd,my HD3200 onboard could handle aero no problem and your GPU is better.

Your using the 64bit edition yes?
I would try it and see if it works,im sure it will.

On a side note,a clean install would probably not have this problem, upgrades and very messy at the best of times.

The upgrade advisor is a POS, and yes that 2600 XT will work just fine with Windows 7 and Aero. Only problem that it could have is if the card is AGP and you are running it on a motherboard that doesn't have a proper AGP driver.

Thanks gentlemen. I assumed the advisor was vague at best. I think the2600XY I have is PCIE 16. I will give the clean install a go then and report back.

The Cat 9.12 drivers here should work just fine - Drivers & Support | GAME.AMD.COM

And yes... the Catalyst Control Center works just fine, and is compatible, under Windows 7 x64, and has been since 7 beta.
