    Asus 4650 question

    Hello people,

Just thought I would ask a question before I send my card back and get a diff one.
Recently I bought a ASUS EAH4650 512mb 64bit, its rather disappointing so far.

It only scored a 3.6 Aero and a 5.6 Graphics gaming, yett when I tested the wife's 9400gt on my system it scored hell of a lot better. 4.9 Aeros and a 5.9 gaming graphics.

I have updated and even tryed downgrading some of the drivers, no improvements. Finially had to look back for my old mobo disc and install older nforce drivers for the asus card to jump. All in all the card performs 10fps slower then the 9400gt.

Anyone else have these issues ?

Where did the 64 bit come from? If that is supposed to be the memory bus, all 4650's have a 128 bit memory bus. If it is a 64 bit bus then the card wasn't made to spec.

Now with that out of the way there is no way that the 9400GT is faster than the 4650,

The 4650 isn't the fastest card out there, but it still slaps the 9400GT around a fair bit. As far as the driver for the card goes the Catalyst 9.12 is the current one,

Uninstall whatever you currently have installed using the ATI Uninstall Utility in Programs and Features, then install the above.

As far as your motherboard drivers, don't know what is on the disk but it won't be Windows 7 drivers (not unless you got the board in the last six months and Asus pressed a new disk that had them on it). Get the latest Windows 7 drivers for the motherboard from here,

    NVIDIA DRIVERS 15.51 WHQL

and install them before installing the video card driver.

Shrug I am really at a loss, compared to the fps i was getting in L4D2 with the same setting's my 9400gt was doing 25-35 fps, maxed setting's, maxed anti alising, my 4650 was only putting out 19-25 fps with some lag.

At first my win was only reading a 3.7, and 5.8 rating, Uninstalled the video driver, installed the mobo drivers the number jumped to 4.5 and 5.8 wei score. Now after installing the ATI Hotfix it dropped back down to its 3.7. I'm really at a loss here, but on a good note it plays Dragons Age smoothly at 1024x768 with 2x anti, and maxed gfx.

Guess Asus did make a 64 bit 4650. That would also be why your 9400 beats it, because the 4650 is only half a card. get an actual 4650 with the proper 128 bit memory on it and it will spank that 9400.
