    Windows Aero Crash

Hey guys, I have recently upgraded my PC (I know the spec isn't that great!) and installed an ATi Radeon HD4650 onto my AGP slot... The drivers installed without a problem and it plays DVD's and views photographs without a problem, even with Aero enabled.

However, when Aero is enabled, there is a distortion appears, namely on the close/minimize/maximize buttons, and on any flash screens for programs starting... Anyone have any idea why this would be happening?

I have installed the latest drivers available from the ATi web site: Catalyst Hotfix 10.1

    Sucks!

That sucks man, I had tried for a few weeks to fix this problem, but it turned out for me that the mainboard had fried somewhere, so certain things were no longer working... Got to the point where Windows 7 would no longer load and nothing else would work properly. So just built myself a new PC.

You have downloaded the AGP hotfix as opposed to the PCI-e one? What is the rating on your power supply? As I beleive this is what fried my mainboard in the first place...

    JohnnyBee, welcome to the forums.

It isn't your video card that is the problem but the antiquated chipset (NF2) on the motherboard, and the lack of a proper working AGP/GART driver. Try one of (or both) of the driver packs that sirdan linked to in the last post here,

Asus Radeon AH 4650 Driver Error Please Help

Had a quick look at it and it looks like it is one of the last driver re-mixes for that board. With a bit of luck the AGP/GART driver in either one will get your video card working properly. It may take running the setup.exe in XP Compatibility mode,

    Compatibility Mode

to get the driver to install.

Here's the latest AGP drivers for ATI - Catalyst AGP Hotfix - Radeon HD 4000 Radeon HD 3000 and Radeon HD 2000 Series AGP products. Not sure they'll help but....

There's a discussion thread here - Catalyst AGP Hotfix thread (current: 9.5) - Rage3D Discussion Area

    Good luck.
