       Warning

Some major problems being reported with these new WHQL 196.75 drivers. Cards overheating and possible damage due to fan control problems.

Nvidia has pulled them off their site. Recommended to fall back to previous drivers.

yes I installed the 196.75 fdor BC2 and my fans both went to ZERO on my SLI 260's... I didn't notice right away and just sitting idle my temps went to 96, and 104°C... yes C

was very scary... They still work ok thankfully or I'd have been very angry. I'm now on 196.21.. Check out where my mouse was showing the temps. I cranked the fan to above 70% and waited. They came down pretty fast. but was still a very scary moment for me. (but would have gave me reason to upgrade to Fermi)

but I'll be getting Fermi anyways.

I'm already on 196.21, switched again, and I still have the same problem. My computer came with NVIDIA 7900- Can I upgrade (download) to 7950, or even another series or do I have stay in a particular range?

    Welcome to the forum Sonic:)
Not sure what you mean. If you are using the 196.21 driver for your card stick with that as the latest one-196.75- is causing problems.
What problems are you having and what do you mean by "switched again"?
Also the 7900 is the card you have. The only way to upgrade that is to buy another card and put it in.
You can, however, use a variety of Geforce drivers for that card. Nvidia are constantly releasing new drivers which are usually backwards compatible with their range of different graphics cards.
The warning is for the latest Nvidia driver release.

    Hope this helps, John:)

New Nvidia BETA drivers are up: 197.13

This driver resolves fan speed issues reported with version 196.75 drivers. NVIDIA asks that you remove 196.75 drivers and update to either 196.21 WHQL drivers or to this 197.13 WHQL-candidate driver.

    New in Version 197.13
    • Adds support for Next Generation ION.
    • Adds support for GeForce GT 320, GeForce GT 330, and GeForce GT 340.
    • Upgrades PhysX System Software to version 9.10.0129.
    • Upgrades HD Audio driver to version 1.0.9.1 (for supported GPUs).
    • Increases performance in several PC games from v196.21 WHQL. The following are examples of measured improvements. Results will vary depending on your GPU and system configuration:

      • Up to 13% performance increase in Crysis: Warhead with a single GPU
      • Up to 30% performance increase in Crysis: Warhead with SLI technology
      • Up to 13% performance increase in H.A.W.X with single GPU
      • Up to 15% performance increase in H.A.W.X with SLI technology
      • Up to 30% performance increase in Left 4 Dead with single GPU
      • Up to 28% performance increase in Left 4 Dead with SLI technology

    • Adds SLI and multi-GPU support for top new gaming titles including Assassin Creed II, Battlefield: Bad Company 2, Command and Conquer 4: Tiberium Twilight, Grand Theft Auto IV: Episodes from Liberty City, Mass Effect 2, Napoleon: Total War, and Zombie Driver.
    • Enhanced SLI support for Metro 2033, Supreme Commander 2, Unigine, and World of Warcraft.
    • Adds Ambient Occlusion support for Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood, Need for Speed: Shift, Resident Evil 5, RUSE, and Street Fighter IV.
    • Adds override anti-aliasing support for Mass Effect 2.
    • Includes numerous bug fixes. Refer to the release notes on the documentation tab for information about the key bug fixes in this release.
