The driver should support your GPU, but I don't know what sort of effect it will have on the blu-ray functionality. I believe that Sony is one of those manufacturers who can be a bit pinnicky about drivers that don't originate from them.

    From the NVidia website:
    NVidia Caveat said:
As part of the NVIDIA Verde Notebook Driver Program, this is a reference driver that can be installed on supported NVIDIA notebook GPUs. However, please note that your notebook original equipment manufacturer (OEM) provides certified drivers for your specific notebook on their website. NVIDIA recommends that you check with your notebook OEM about recommended software updates for your notebook. OEMs may not provide technical support for issues that arise from the use of this driver.
    32-bit: NVIDIA DRIVERS 266.58 WHQL
    64-bit: NVIDIA DRIVERS 266.58 WHQL
So this is what Sony's Vaio Support site says:

    Sony eSupport - VGN-FZ470E

But as I said earlier, the Windows 7 Upgrade Advisor still says the GeForce 8400M GT will not be compatible. Should I just attempt to see what happens?

Don't worry about the upgrade adviser ts a nVidia graphic card, as long as it has it in the support list.

    Hello Peter,

Did it give you any error messages?

Did you see if uninstalling the 260.99 drivers would allow you to install the newer version?

No errors, just failed to install and yes, I tried every possible method. Ended up with a screen that looked to me to be sub-RGB if that is possible. The same goes for any drivers beta or otherwise above this version, but in my main Vista OS only. I did manage to get 266.58 to install on the other one and in my Win 7's.

Sorry I should have clarified which OS I was talking about and realized we were talking Win 7 here.

I must say, judging by the nVidia GeForce forums, I am by no means alone in this situation.

    Peter,

You might see if using Guru3D - Driver Sweeper to wipe all traces of the old NIVIDIA drivers and any other video driver found may help, and allow you to install the newer driver afterwards.
