    Strange,

Do you have the chipset and monitor drivers installed?

By chipset I assume you mean motherboard BIOS update. It is the latest available for this M/B. Monitor drivers are also the latest. Device Manager is all OK.

    Cheers, downloading Now! :)

No problems here yet. Am going to try a game & media center.!
Tried a game and media center. Both OK. The 18.22 whql driver also cleared the problem with a black screen replacing the theme, after using media center

OK the same thing happened in Vista...that is a first. Code 43. Driver installed OK but Windows stopped it running because of "a problem". Updating my WEI served no purpose as it then dropped from its already low 4.1 to 1.0...!!
XP's both installed without a hitch.

    Thank God for System Restore.

I have no idea what is causing this but I suspect it's some 3rd party influence, but what? Nothing major has changed.
Nvidia Forums have several reports from various people of exactly the same problem. So you guys that are achieving success are lucky.

    Peter,

Sorry, I meant the motherboard chipset drivers, not the BIOS. These are the drivers for the components built into the motherboard. southbridge, USB, IDE, ATA, etc........

    Download Search Results

From the link above, it doesn't appear Vista is supported for this mobo.

Thanks. I've already gone that route and whilst it appears that the chipset has been updated, the next time I boot into whatever is my "system of the day" tests show that nothing has changed.

Yes this MOBO is getting on in age now but performs very well, in Windows 7 and Vista for that matter. Bought this machine in 2001 and it has been heavily modded since then....LOL.

As I stated last night, Nvidia's Forums are full of moans and groans from people experiencing exactly the same as myself, and not just for this update, but the previous one too, (181.20 I think). With many complaints from people with much more recent MOBO's than myself.

At least the damn things installed OK in both my XP boots...whoop dee doo.

On the Nvidia Forums someone from Romania, of all places, has steered me to an Nvidia webpage that points out to Windows 7 Beta users that they should only get their Nvidia drivers via Windows Update.

NVIDIA Graphics Supercharge Microsoft Windows 7

While that doesn't answer why they also failed in Vista, at least it makes me feel better about the failure in Windows 7.

    Peter,

LOL, the Vista drivers work better for me in Windows 7 than the Windows 7 beta drivers do. Go figure. LOL

Yes I have to agree the 181.22 whql drivers are working very well. :)
