    Change resolution from Safe mode?

I've had some problems with finding the best resolution for my monitor (which seems to lack drivers for win7 despite that it's still sold). I was trying different settings and all of a sudden the settings aren't canceled after a few seconds when choosing a resultion that the monitor doesn't support!?!? I'm quite sure I didn't accidently click "apply changes" by accident when the monitor went black.

I shut down the computer manually and can restart it in Safe mode. But if I change the resolution there and restart the computer, I still just get a black screen after restarting the computer when windows is starting (before that, of course, I can see properly on the screen).

Can someone please tell me how I can fix this? It seems like there must be a way (but I don't have a clue how to, and havent been able to find any descriptiom anywhere).

(The monitor is a LG W2253TQ)

Edit: Could it work to uninstall the drivers to my graphic card (Nividia ION) to get some basic "standard setting" or will that just f¤%k things up more?

I solved it. "Restore system settings to earlier values" or something (I don't run windows in english so not sure what it's called). I leave my post if there are any other noobs with the same problem...

Edit: I still can't set the resolution to 1680*1050 (which is what I have used on my monitor before, running XP), but I don't really know how to formulate a questions about that. It there is a way to "force" those settings? An aswer to that would be most appriciated...
