missing 1920x1080 resolution

SOLVED... after tightened the VGA cable on the monitor!
Thanks a lot to this thread! Thinking of that should be immediate, but is NOT in some cases, as the one I fell in, so I detail it:

My PC is a DELL Latitude e4300 (NBCheck, AmznCOM, DELL).
Its only external graphic output is VGA. System is Windows 7 64bit Pro (with XP Mode, not concerned here).
It is connected through VGA to my Iiyama ProLite B2274HDS-B2 (bought 161.28 EUR on 11 Apr 2012 from AmznFR, also see IiyamaFR, AmznCOUK, LCD-Compare).
I used to display the main desktop on the Latitude 13in 1280×800 integrated LCD, and all the main stuff on the Iiyama, set to its 1920×1080 natural resolution. This had worked perfect, daily for one year or two.

Then yesterday Sun 07 Aug 2016 I wanted to listen to an entire music album (which I never did before on that little old PC). Looking for WMP, that I had used for ripping CDs to mp3, I stumbled on WMC, that I never used before, so WMC wanted to reconfigure my system, which I refused for all the Library and such, but accepted for tuning Audio and Video.
WMC made a mess! The Iiyama monitor went black, then by unplugging the VGA cable I brought all my open Chrome windows with their tabs back on the integrated LCD, but they were unresponsive and unusable; everything else worked, but Chrome had actually crashed, in a way I never seen before.
I rebooted the PC, and then the Iiyama monitor was still displaying in the reduced and distorted 1600×1200 resolution (I felt back in 1998!).
Control Panel Display, whether for the monitor (which was no more listed as "iiyama ProLite PL2274HD" but as a mundane non-Plug-and-Play monitor) or for the Intel graphics card, offered no resolution above 1600×1200.
So I thought that WMC had broken something in the driver settings, or in the driver itself.
I thought of changing the Iiyama B2274HDS driver, or the Intel Mobile Intel(R) 4 Series Express Chipset Family driver, but I discovered that updating drivers has now become much more difficult: all the helpful sites that used to scan your system and find the right drivers have gone down; Google "Iiyama ProLite b2274hds driver", at my deep surprise, returned nothing useful; trying directly Iiyama or Intel didn't return useful info any more; trying Google "1920x1080 resolution option disappeared" returned a couple irrelevant or useless sites, BUT this one, missing 1920x1080 resolution: I browsed and tightened everything, found an USB hub power was disconnected, the VGA cable was loose as it often does on the PC end (the e4300 VGA connector lacks the usual 2 screws). After trying everything, nothing worked, the image was still distorted. So I went to the VGA cable monitor end, and found that yes, despite it was apparently still fully and correctly plugged and had NOT been (and should NOT be) subject to any problem for years, yes it was somewhat loose. I tightened it, screwed its 2 screws (that out of laziness I hadn't when I plugged it a few years ago), and the image came back OK!
How could I guess that my problem with WMC had caused or accompanied or hidden an un-tightening of the VGA cable monitor end?

I am having the same problem with a new monitor. I tried everything in this thread to no avail! I even created a custom resolution, and made sure the VGA cables are indeed tight and it WILL NOT go to 1920x1080 AT ALL! the monitor IS capable of 1920x1080 and gets that resolution on a Windows XP machine but WILL NOT on a Dell Optiplex 780 running Windows 7!

The intel custom resolution WILL NOT stick EVEN THOUGH it DID for my OLD monitor for 1600x900. NO MORE!!

Have you try altering custom refresh rate?

Not all screen area options available at high monitor refresh rate?

Try lowering custom other settings until screen area option not grayed out.

Now I am having an issue where even though it is set at 1920x1080 and so does the monitor report 1920x1080, but there is a two inch black bar on the right hand side of the screen and all text and objects are blurry because it is not really 1920x1080. I tried playing with all the settings in the Intel Graphic Options, tried both 75 and 60 refresh rate, it is a 2010 Viore Monitor with VGA input, there is no DV input.

No help??





I tried uninstalling the Intel driver completely, letting Windows install the generic driver, and then reinstalling the Intel driver. And it was working for a little bit, no black bars, filling the entire screen. But my display automatically turned off due to inactivity and when I moved the mouse, I am back to square 1! I have the black bar again, and nothing I do will fit the screen. This is definitely a driver issue, and I don't want to have to constantly uninstall the Intel driver nonstop just to get full screen.

Try switching off Windows 7 Gadgets temporarily and see if the problem goes away.

Windows 7 gadgets is already turned off. I never use them.

The back of the monitor shows the model number viore lc42vxf60bp

So I searched for a driver and Google said "Did not match any documents"

Even just 'viore lc42vxf60bp' still says "Did not match any documents.

Like if the model of my monitor is non-existent like it came from another world. There is nothing on the internet regarding this model of monitor at all. And I made sure that was the correct model number.

Try viewing your source using MPC-HC

You may IMO try look on the video player side. First, what source are you playing? If a file (e.g. a TV record) then its Properties (in Windows Explorer, or using MediaInfo) should tell you if the file is 1920×1080 or 1440×1080. The latter, more frequent in TV records, is anamorphed from the "true" 1920×1080 for both saving bandwidth and conforming to TV standards, so the transform is done silently and reliably by most video players, of which the best was VLC and is now MPC-HC (both in 32-bit even in 64-bit Windows. The 64-bit versions, while highly useful for OSes, appear nearly useless for programs, hence don't get as properly maintained).
