ok so I called customer service and explained the problem to the guy.

He says that its possible my card my be malfunctioning because of the gray screen with vertical lines but he also said it could be a problem with the drivers.

He also mentioned that there is supposed to be a new driver coming out this month to address this problem and others.

sigh......

it must of been ''pizzaman'' who told you the card was the best thing since sliced bread.

the drivers are improving, ever so slightly..... the 8.70 RC2 is running like a charm on my card...

this ''GSOD'' (grey screen of death, as its become known) is a real pest... some say its a driver issue, yet ppl with matching H/W & the same drivers are not seeing the same things

many many ppl belive this problem is related to overheating GDDR IC chips, apparently if case airflow is no good (coupled with the fact these cards dont utilize a backplate) the VRAM ends up overheating causing all of the above.

ppl have been able to cure this problem by adding extra heatsinks to the rear of the card, i personally would not be doing any of that to get a brand new product functioning, it would be going straight back.....

if you really want to perservere with this card adding these small blocks may well solve your troubles.

now yet another problem

when my piece of crap 5770 decides to work for a little while and not give me a gray screen i use it a lot with my plasma tv extended to be able to watch movies

My old 50 dollar card use to fill my plasma screen completely, now with my SUPPOSEDLY better HD 5770 I cant get my plasma screen to fill up completely, I get 2 small black bars on the sides and top and bottom aswell

I'd look in CCC and see if the modes listed are supported by your tv.

Those black bands are part of the aspect ratio of true 16:9, they are always there. Even in HD broadcasts from your cable or satellite provider they are there. If your old card filled up your plasma screen, then it converted it to 4:3 aspect ratio or a setting was change. As for your other issues with the card, definitely check airflow and that it's adequate and equalized, check for the latest driver or it's a defaulty card.

I'm going hell, I know it!
Just spent half a day getting rid of Vundo.H trojan on a PC at work. No virus scans run for 8+ months. IE temp folder took 3 minutes to empty. After a half dozen scans with NOD32, MalwareBytes, and MS MRT I stopped getting an infection warning. Had our outside gurus take it anyway and pull the HD...
